This book is indispensable to understand the complexity of a culture of sexual harassment, how it is perpetuated, why it must be broken, and how.

Kantor and Twohey did a great and important work of investigative journalism, which was rewarded with a Pulitzer prize. "She said" explains how of this investigative work was processed and shaped, with a great focus on the women who had the courage to speak up.

The sensitive and careful story-telling shows respect to these brave women, their stories, and their struggles - their *lives*. It perfectly balances the empathy of the authors' for these women and the mandatory detached/professional approach which is the cornerstone of unimpeachable journalistic work.

The book has very much its own "voice" (perfectly rendered by Lowman) and I found myself captivated until the climatic ending. I finished this book with a deep respect for Kantor and Twohey and most of all great empathy with and gratitude to the women who spoke up.

Maddow did great research and articulating work in this book. She put it all together beautifully and vividly, and her reading is just ... so HER i.e. smart, engaging and energizing !

As it happens, I worked in the extractive industry, and I admit I was amazed how somebody who admittedly didn't know anything about this industry could put together such a clever, well informed and essential book.
Two themes I found particularly interesting :
- The historical research was extraordinary well done, and the cross-referencing and conclusions-drawing was astute. I had many "aha" jubilating moments listening to this.
- The analysis of the recent (current ?) developments re. Russia's meddling in the US elections solidified my surmises, and - frankly - is very worrying.

This book is definitely one of 2019's essentials.

PS: if you enjoyed this audiobook, you will enjoy reading Fiona Hill's "Mister Putin" and "The Siberian Curse".

Please also read "She Said" by Kantor and Twohey

Farrow describes in a great deal of details his personal experience investigating the rape and sexual assault/harassment claims made against Harvey 🐷 Weinstein. The investigative journalism work itself received much deserved praise.

On top of this, I found the book to be a very entertaining real-life story with many details about the author's thoughts, the author's movements, the author's actions, and the author's personal life. I admire Farrow's sister Dylan a lot, and I listen to his hilarious boyfriend Lovett's Pod Save America podcast, so this fed the "gossip" hunger I might have felt about these people. But this is the crux of the matter : I ultimately found that the account of the investigation was too personal, and didn't serve the important story as much as it deserves to be served.
Farrow said it himself in interviews : a journalist doesn't want to become the story. Farrow, with his "Hollywood" status, finds it very hard to walk that fine line, especially in this "Hollywood" context.

I might be a little unfair, but I preferred the book "She Said" by investigative journalists Kantor and Twohey, on their parallel investigation into the same 🐷 Weinstein scandal. Their tone was much more neutral and detached, but perfectly described their personal struggles and interrogations nonetheless. In their book, the story of the women victimized by 🐷 Weinstein is front and center. I recommend this book 100%

On a side note: Farrow's voice is nice, and it makes sense that he's reading the book himself since he writes in the 1st person, but ... I just couldn't deal with the "voices" (why ? please, why ?!). It was just too distracting and unnecessary.

The original story is (of course) wonderful, and its adaptation is cleverly made. Children (9 y.o.) are captivated, and the adults too. The narrators do a great job (bravo !). The music and its rendition create a beautiful atmosphere.
A quality audiobook, we recommend.

I love J Stroud's Bartimaeus books, and S Jones's reading is great. HOWEVER, this edition of the audiobook is defective. I signaled the problem to Audible a year ago (February 2018), and the problem still persists. - The audiobook, as available on the audible streaming service, isn't divided into individual chapters corresponding to the book chapters. - More often than not, the "cut" is made within a chapter (see list below). - There are always several "book chapters" grouped into one "audio chapter" (as a final proof, when one clicks on "chapter 20" in the streaming playlist, one hears "Bartimaeus, chapter 44" !)

Though this book is directed towards young adults and +12 kids, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The plot is interesting and rich, the characters well developed, the book-universe coherent and believable. The story-line across the whole series is GREAT.

People who are interested in mythology won't learn anything new, but the presentation is entertaining, and the reader is great.

The premises of the book are disturbing, but the story is profoundly human and captivating. I loved how the characters were developed. A very entertaining book - that makes you think !
