This is a nicely tied-up story, with rounded characters and no improbable deus-ex-machina. Erin Bennett reads the story perfectly, it was a real pleasure listening to this novel.

The story is based on an interesting idea/background, and I was waiting for things to develop and then in some way incorporate the background story, tie it all in. Instead, the story peters out, the ending is boring and leaves you dissatisfied. It is as if the writer did not have any ideas anymore and just stopped writing. Especially frustrating as the beginning is quite gripping. On the whole not to be recommended. However, the speakers are first class.

This is a book that is a pleasure to listen to. I don't want to give away anything, but the story is great, and the plot develops logically. Just go ahead, you will not regret buying this one.

This story is long-winded, tends to get boring, and has a lot of unconvincing 'twists'. The characters are not round, they act in ways that seem out of character, and they are unconvincing as well. Not to speak of the titles of the parts of the book. Frankly, I did not know what they were supposed to mean. On the whole not to be recommended.

I don't know in which order Swanson published his books, but if this is the third one (after The Killing Kind and Her Every Fear), then the quality is definitely decreasing. I found the story hard to believe, it was mostly about more and more people getting killed, and the characters might have been 'rounder'. I felt a little let down, having enjoyed the other two books. So if you have not read anything by Swanson, do NOT start with this one. Try The Killing Kind!

A good thriller

I enjoyed listening to this thriller by Peter Swanson, though I have to admit that I found his book 'The Killing Kind' MUCH better, especially the end. Anyway, the way the author anchors his stories in the real world is something I appreciate, and the plot is good. Something to listen to on a rainy day, or when you need to take your mind off something else. I recommend it.

I've listened to the other 2 B.A. Paris novels, and even though they are not great literature, they were a good listen. This one is boring and far-fetched. It is basically about the constantly changing suspicions and musings of Finn. As with every bad thriller, the reader keeps wondering why no sensible idea seems to cross the protagonist's mind. I'd recommend you find something more thrilling to listen to.

Few authors, the more books they publish, the better they write. This is certainly true for Grisham. I loved this book, which must have involved a lot of research. I 'enjoyed' (not quite the word, given the subject matter) parts one and two very much, also because the book is perfectly read, and characters are wonderfully rendered, by Michael Beck. Part three was a little long, at least to my mind. I don't want to give anything away, it would be a shame, so my advice is: Just go ahead and read/listen to it.

Everyone knows the story so I don’t need to rate the story. The performance, however, is a disaster. If I could give minus 5 stars, I would. The speaker makes a pause between verb and object, or between adjective and noun etc. Plus he sounds like he was sitting in a tin box. How can anyone produce an audiobook with such a reader? I got to chapter 2 and then gave up. Definitely not to be recommended. Stay away from this reader!

The author does her own advertising by promising an 'absolutely gripping thriller with a jaw-dropping twist'. Good authors do not need to make any such promises, they just write convincing stories. This author needs more than a 100 chapters for a story that could have been told in much less time, and there is nothing jaw-dropping about the twist, actually it is so twisted that in the end one is not sure (but also does not really care) who did what to whom. I am very sure that I will not read any other of these 'gripping' stories.
I was also unconvinced by Michele Moran's performance, who reads the story in a way that one is not always sure who says what, sometimes she reads the women's part in a voice that suggests a man, and then raises her voice for the man's answer.
On the whole neither the author, nor the reader of the story are to be recommended.
