wichtigstes zuerst:

The discovery of an ancient alien pyramid buried under the ice in Antarctica changes Earth forever. We learn that we are the forgotten slaves of a galaxy spanning empire called the V'kit'no'sat who abandoned our planet 100,000 years ago during a massive rebellion. Our ancestors, the Zen'zat, were given special genetic powers and ordered never to reproduce under pain of death...for themselves and their offspring. That means Earth's entire population is illegal and if the V'kit'no'sat return to reclaim their lost border colony they'll wipe out every last one of us.

The story is nice enough. there are aspects that would be interesting to hear more about but they are simply skipped.

Then again I'm not too bummed because I dont think I could listen to my favorite stories if they were narrated by this books narrator. She does not seem interested in the material, does not change intonation, has barely any voice changes for different characters

Microsoft Sam wouldnt do a worse job and at least that would have a comedic effect

Joseph Laribeau was born to be a Marine in the Galactic Fleet. He was born to fight the alien enemies known as the Skrang Alliance and travel the galaxy doing his duty as a Marine Sergeant. He loved the life. But when the war ended and Joe found himself medically discharged, the best job ever was over, and he never thought he'd find his way again. Then a beautiful alien walked into his life and offered him a chance at something even greater than the Fleet, a chance to serve with the Salvage Merc Corp.

Cant comment on the story itself too much yet as I'm not yet finished. Appears solid this far though.

But the narrator is quite a double edged sword. He doesn't do an awful job. His voices are good enough that I can easily distinguish characters, his overall voice is pleasant enough.

But his pacing moves between acceptable and way too fast. I'm currently listening at 85% speed, just so it doesn't feel like I'm cramming the story.
This is the first time I've ever changed the playback speed of a book down. Also since he goes down to somewhat normal speeds every now and again it then sounds too slow.

If you can't live with that you will not finish the book

Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

I have yet to finish the book, but so far the story is rather amusing.

The concept is nice and something new, but the writing style is atrocious.
Not sure if it would be as noticeable in book form but when it is read it is garing.

The worst part so far has been when two of the main characters talk early on

x said....y said.....x said.....y said....x said....y said. Very rarely is there any differentiation from this pattern.
Had the narrator been able to adapt his voice enough to differentiate between characters (which I'm sure he could have) and had he been allowed to leave out all the superflous "x said y said" I would be able to talk more indepth about smaller traits of the book.

Overall this would make for a nice audioplay instead of a audiobook. Or a movie/black mirror episode

Thumbing across the scorched West Texas desert, loner Jack Reacher has nowhere to go and all the time in the world to get there. Cruising the same stretch of two-lane blacktop is pretty Carmen Greer. But for Reacher, the lift comes with a hitch. Carmen's got a story to tell, and it's a wild one. All about her husband, her family secrets, and a hometown that's pure Gothic. She's also got a plan. Jack Reacher's part of it. And before the sun sets, this ride could cost them both their lives.

the story could be good, but 17 hours is ten hours too much for the material. thus it almost felt like work to listen to it

in my opinion the weakest book in the series up to this point
