The best book I have read and now also heard on capital allocation skills! I recommend reading/listening to this (audio)book multiple times, it really grows on you! It outlines how 8 CEOs who generated outstanding results for their shareholders handled the difficult task of capital allocation, how they went against the grain and which similarities/differences can be found in their respective approach. Very well assembled and strucutred. Fully recommended!

Impressive!

This book is easily amongst my top 5 best books ever read (listened to), potentially even the best book. The idea behind it is as simple as it is eye opening. Taleb spends a lot of time transferring it to various fields (science, medicine, business, politics, ethics etc) and every time you think you got it, you learn about a new aspect... 10 stars from me, well done Mr. Taleb! The speaker in the audiobook version is also very good and only adds to the experience of listening to the book! Well done!!!

Great story, couldn‘t put it away!

I listened to this audiobook almost in one go. Once started you can‘t really stop. The story is as fascinating as it is unbelievable. The speaker is great and added positively to the lively story by creating a pleasant listening experience. Highly recommended!

Although not being an American (and the book very much focusses on American history) I could deeply identify with the ideas presented in here. Probably due to the fact that the American way of life had influenced other western nations in a significant way - at least in my lifetime. This book is awesome, regardless whether you are an investor (like me) or just interested in cycles, generations, history and how it all might fit together. I opens your eyes for the long cycles and offers impressive reasons why "plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose". The narrator is good and following along is made easy. If I could, this book would be 10 Stars.

1929 has got its very own fascination, especially when measured against today in the aftermath of the GFC. It is truly amazing how little people learn from past mistakes while greed takes control of their brain. Think about this in the face of record high valuations in the stock market, historically low interest rates, record borrowing from corporations, extremely high margin debt... my prediction: there will soon be written another book with similar content reflecting on the insanity in the early 21st century. It enforces Mark Twain‘s famous words: history never repeats but it rhymes!

Was soll man da noch sagen?

This book was a recommendation on the NoAgenda podcast (which I hereby also recommend) and after having finished the book I encourage anyone else to listen to it too.
It tells the story of the CIA from its founding days after WW2 until the end of the Bush administration.
I read on some Amazon reviews that the book is negatively biased towards the CIA and from time to time it seems so. But when you have listened to the last two chapters, the whole story gets and additional aspect, so I really can't join into this criticism.
I whole-heartedly recommend listening to this audiobook. And as the speaker's voice fits the narrative nicely this is not only an interesting but also a very pleasant experience.

This book is an eye-opener to the world of covert warfare and extrajudicial killings. Whether you are an American or not, read this book to understand what the US does - not only to terrorists (with whom I have little sympathy in general) - but to the ordinary people of these countries where drone strikes are daily business. Learn about the success-rates of drone-warfare and the vested interests of those begind this machine. Read it to get a glimpse of how surveillance technology has developed from an instrument of war on terrorism to items used by police to spy on their own civillians. One has not to be too creative to see where this whole thing is going! Scare-mongering? Read the book and draw your own conclusions but READ IT YOU DEFINITELY SHOULD!

Tipping point is definetely amongst my personal must-reads (other books I consider in the section are Fooled by randomness, Essays of Warren Buffett (Cunningham), Extraordinary popular delusions and the madness of crowds, Manics Panics and Crashes, Thinking Fast and Slow just to give you a flavour of my taste). I was absolutely stunned by that vast accumulation of interesting observations and how Gladwell puts them together into an almost unstoppable listening experience (in book terms this would equal a page-turner). Loved it, will definitely re-read it as a book (so many passages I want to mark) and heavily recommend it to you. Thank you Mr. Gladwell for that wonderful book!
