There was a new shop in town. Run by a stranger. Needful Things, the sign said. The oddest name. A name that caused some gossip and speculation among the good folks of Castle Rock, Maine, while they waited for opening day. Eleven-year-old Brian Rusk was the first customer and he got just what he wanted, a very rare 1956 Sandy Koufax baseball card. Signed. Cyndi Rose Martin was next. A Lalique vase. A perfect match for her living room decor. Something for everyone.

Trepidant. If I only had one word for this book it would be trepidant. It moves quickly, it builds the characters consistently up, there are no loose ends or "cul de sacks". I appreciate the effort from the author in the reading, not professional at times but always authentic. When possible, I like the voice of the writer backing up his/her work.
It is pure King. What you see, is what you get.

Was hat Ihnen am allerbesten an The Good Apprentice gefallen?

Fantastic story, very ellaborated and intelligent. The reading is distracting in some points, I did not really enjoy how the reader makes up voices of characters, I found it confusing at times. But the story pays off. Quite long, needs some patience to make it work.

Winner of the British Book Awards, Newcomer of the Year, 2005.

English magicians were once the wonder of the known world, with fairy servants at their beck and call; they could command winds, mountains, and woods. But by the early 1800s they have long since lost the ability to perform magic. They can only write long, dull papers about it, while fairy servants are nothing but a fading memory.

Was genau hat Sie an Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell enttäuscht?

It is too complicated to follow it up as an audio book. For example, the list of names is quite long and it is difficult to follow who is who. It includes the reading of footnotes, which I found as a rythm-breaker, an "interruptus" short to speak. I am sure it works better as a normal book.

Now The View from the Cheap Seats brings together, for the first time ever, more than 60 works of his outstanding nonfiction on topics and people close to his heart.

Great delivery, lots of substance, almost each of them a jewel. I'd give Gaiman, as usual, not five but eighty stars. Or eight hundred. Or eight million.
However, I reserve the last of the 5 symbolic stars because a few of the writings are too personal or simply do not have the same level of excellence, and they seem to be part of the collection just because they exist. Which they do. But just not at the same (estelar) level of excellence
It made me dream and wander off. And for that I am grateful.
