Medical treatment for ADHD fails much too often - not because of the drugs themselves, but how they are given. New ADHD Medication Rules - Brain Science & Common Sense shows that patients can react very differently to ADHD prescriptions, resulting in missed diagnoses, imbalanced treatment and over or under medication.

I had been hesitating about getting into this book because some reviews had mentioned that the style was disorganized. Personally I disagree wholeheartedly with this assessment; i find this audiobook an extremely well presented Insider discussion on the subject of ADHD by somebody who has been treating this condition for long time. Think of this as a private discussion between doctors or yourself and a doctor of close acquaintance and you will feel privileged to be shown what the real treatment challenges of ADHD treatment are. Best resource for doctors. Very pleasantly author-read.

From a book with such a title I would expect an original approach to the problem of achieving goals. This work however is simply an overview of all kinds of standard self-help literature assumptions such as having to believe in oneself, taking care of sleep and food etc.
Personally I don’t even see how it engages the goal setting process in any meaningful or original way as the title would suggest one to assume.

Interesting topic made hardly anything of by two female writers who indulge in unabadhed adulation of buisnessworld big guns, mostly according to these guys presentation. They are especially awed that these guys value family life when laid off.
Horribly read, too, in an exaggeratedly amazed kindergarden auntie voice with a repertoire of one single inflection. Desaster all the way...

Stark narrates a series of outdoor adventure stories in which thrill can cross the line into mortal peril. Each death or brush with death is at once a suspense story, a cautionary tale, and a medical thriller. He describes what goes through the mind of a cross-country skier as his body temperature plummets - apathy at 91 degrees, stupor at 90 - and explores the physiology of a snowboarder trying not to panic as he consumes the tiny pocket of air trapped around his face under thousands of pounds of snow.

Listen to this book and send your nonverbal intelligence soaring. Joe Navarro, a former FBI counterintelligence officer and a recognized expert on nonverbal behavior, explains how to "speed-read" people: decode sentiments and behaviors, avoid hidden pitfalls, and look for deceptive behaviors. You'll also learn how your body language can influence what your boss, family, friends, and strangers think of you.

A lot of good body language readers and human lie detectors become so out of some autobiographical necessity, usually some personal drama. This is also the case in Joe Navarro's story. He had to quickly learn to read people when he exiled into the US from Cuba. In his case, it left him with a pleasantly humanitarian side, in spite of his shady employment situation. For example, the book tells how to detect signs of abuse in children, embroidered by his own experiences as father on playgrounds.
But the book is also good for it's original content. A lot about arm movement etc. I have not come across too much elsewhere. There is a wealth of intelligent life experience in this book, including also warnings about oversimplifications.
In addition it's incredibly well read, always a big factor in an audio book.
Recommended.

As soon as she graduated from high school, Pamela Des Barres headed for the Sunset Strip, where she knocked on rock stars' backstage doors and immersed herself in the drugs, danger, and ecstasy of the freewheeling 1960s. Over the next 10 years she had affairs with Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page, Keith Moon, Waylon Jennings, Chris Hillman, Noel Redding, and Jim Morrison, among others. She traveled with Led Zeppelin; lived in sin with Don Johnson; turned down a date with Elvis Presley; and was close friends with Robert Plant, Gram Parsons, Ray Davies, and Frank Zappa.

Delightfully written, excellently author-read biography of girl dreams come true, replete with drama, fat names-dropping in the most endearing, personable style, which occasionally gives you another image of a star. I loved her story of how Jim Morrison talked her - successfully! - out of taking drugs. A lovely story by a somewhat spiritual witness to important cultural history full of humor about herself and nice things about others.
For Germans: So gut wie (und ähnlich wie) Ushi Obermaiers Biographie 'High Times', aber noch mehr girly und sehr viel besser gelesen. Macht einen Riesenunterschied...

a very nice listen, although there isn't much that is new or original if you have been interested in the field for a bit. it idealizes quick set intimacy without consideration of the downsides, doesn't go into the dark ways it is generated, both manipulatively and as adaption.
this doesn't register as disappointment much, though, because the brothers have assembled an array of delightful stories to spent some pleasant, reflective hours with, leaving oneself full of hope for humanity.
the long run will tell wheather this is a good thing but that's a whole more involved discussion about the solutions of 'prozac nation'.
recommended.
