Arnold’s life story is inspiring and shows that everything is achievable as long as you have a vision for what you want to achieve and put in the effort.

In total, the story felt too long at some parts, some details were in there that contributed to the over 20 hours of listening time.

Great takeaways in an overall long story.

Finding the book through Tim Ferris' podcast episode with Josh Waitzkin, I was deeply interested in learning about new tools to increase my learning potential. That is what I expected when I got the book.

While listening to it, I found it to be more of an autobiographic nature. Nevertheless, Josh's story is deeply inspiring and there are several lessons to learn. The abstract themes about learning he describes go really deep. The ideas are fascinating, but most relevant only to high performers, pursuing excellence in their field.

I especially liked his take on the growth mindset, his approach to "build sandals", which means to be able to autoregulate your emotions and remaining untouched by negative external influences.
His approach has similarities to stoic philosophy, however, he clearly emphasizes to discover one's core essence and staying true to it.

Really recommend the combination of the book along with the podcasts of the Tim Ferris Show. They give more insight into Josh's routines and personality. He is a truly humble and inspiring man.

“Thinking fast and slow” delivers interesting insights on the psychology of decision making, the two systems operating within us and how psychological biases and errors lead to problematic decision making.

Rich in examples, it shows that intuitive judgement can be a pleasurable shortcut, but oftentimes leads to the wrong conclusion.

They key takeaway is that once you are aware of the existence of certain mental errors, you can approach situations, in which they are likely to occur, more carefully and by that make better decisions. This however is often easier when observing others than when you find yourself in the mine field of mental errors.

The book questions the notion of the rational human and his ability to make decisions that maximize his well-being. This has important implications for incentive creation in public policy making.

Overall great book, that needs to be read and reread deliberately to get reminded of the flaws of ones judgement.

The book provides you with tools to navigate successfully during a Crucial Conversation, a conversation with differing opinions, where stakes are high and emotions running strong.

The key message is that mastering crucial conversations is essential for success in any type of relationship.

The key take away is that you want to achieve dialogue during a crucial conversation. Also, what people neglect is that often you yourself have to take a step back and start with yourself first.

Very valuable, highly recommended!
