The book is different from most other works to which it is supposedly compared, and where there could be one, of those books I have read (or listened to) too few.

If you are looking for a novel which could bring back the cosy feeling of the time when there was a high dose of science and a healthy cynicism toward human society in science fiction, this is your pick. If you are looking for a novel where you could meet well developed characters with depth and complexity of human correlations, you should better look elsewhere.

One Thursday lunchtime the Earth gets unexpectedly demolished to make way for a new hyperspace bypass. For Arthur Dent, who has only just had his house demolished that morning, this seems already to be more than he can cope with.

Majorly depending on the reader's (listener's) taste in books, of course, the book does not even one little bit disappoint expectations. Amusing and as far as I know genuine ideas come to life with Stephen Fry's voice.

Continuing the story begun in The Hobbit, this is the first part of Tolkien’s epic masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings, available as a complete and unabridged audiobook. Sauron, the Dark Lord, has gathered to him all the Rings of Power - the means by which he intends to rule Middle-earth. All he lacks in his plans for dominion is the One Ring - the ring that rules them all - which has fallen into the hands of the hobbit, Bilbo Baggins.

In order to have started with the earlier part: I did like the narration well enough, as well as how he sang through the songs, but it got on my nerves how he made out voices of the characters, since I prefer to hear them in my own head to someone telling me how they should sound.

The story is way better developed than what one knows from the movie. The characters make more sense and their actions are not just simply on whims here and there. And epic fantasy it is indeed, not because of epic adventures, but also Tolkien's narrative style, which is what has scared or exhausted so many fans and readers.

No wonder this has been deemed as (one of) his masterpiece. Once again Asimov's insight on humans gives rise to pure bewilderment.

... do not expect much from the side of gender equality, though. It was written in the 50s.
