Heureka, I made it to book 6. If you happened to stumble over one of my earlier reviews you know, that my rating for this book series is generally low. Every book I consume leads me to multiple points where I tell myself: This book is the last, no more! But somehow I want to know how the story goes on and buy the next one anyway. Two of the things I didn't enjoy were:

- The book plays for 13 hours but the story progresses so slowly as if the length would be 5 hours. Often I find myself dozing off when another loot list or character sheet is recited.
- I really dislike the protagonist who is the manifestation of everything American. He decides who needs help and how to help them. He is heroic and thinks he wants only the best for others (the best way is to get more power for himself, you know, so he can help better). This would be finde, the problem I see in the way the story reacts to this, is the author imagining himself as the protagonist, thinking he is greater than everyone else.

The second captivating installment of Aleron Kong's Chaos Seeds series. "We are life takers and heartbreakers," Richter shouted. "Let's go!" Richter and Sion are at it again! Even more of what you loved in the first book. Leveling, world building, awesome items, and what's that you say? Sure! Why not? What's a little necrophilia between friends? Join your favorite Chaos Seed as he answers the call of adventure and deals with the invaders, greedy dwarves, and a wood elf that keeps telling him he has a pretty mouth. Welcome back, my friends! Welcome back...to The Land.

Since you most likely already listened to the first book I don't have to tell you much about the general style (boring character sheet / level up passages, sound effects, no effort to make RPG dynamics plausible).

I experienced the same problems with the second book as with the first. I kind of dislike the protagonist for being self righteous, thoughtless and american style heroic. The second book had some discrepancies to the first, but making sense always comes second to Aleron Kong, so this was expected. I already bought the third book and spend some time on introspection into why I read a book I have so many problems with. First of it is fairly cheap (with amazon unlimited 4€ per book), it is relaxingly positive (only positive developments) and I like the general idea of a city becoming prosperous. As a game master I find some ideas in the book inspiring for coming adventures as well.

Tricked into a world of banished gods, demons, goblins, sprites and magic, Richter must learn to meet the perils of The Land and begin to forge his own kingdom. Actions have consequences across The Land, with powerful creatures and factions now hell-bent on Richter's destruction. Can Richter forge allegiances to survive this harsh and unforgiving world or will he fall to the dark denizens of this ancient and unforgiving realm? A tale to shake "The Land" itself, measuring 10/10 on the Richter scale, how will Richter's choices shape the future of The Land and all who reside in it?

Aleron Kong started the genre of LitRPG, so it is forgivable that this is not on par with current authors - they could learn from his mistakes. I quite like the genre but in this book 10% is the endlessly repeating of meaningless stats. The story has some inconsistencies and, as mentioned before, only a rudimentary start of LitRPG. Don't expect an RPG like world coming true, it is more like a kid playing a game and telling you what he did.

The story itself was interesting, had a good pace and interesting characters. Some dialogues felt artificial and/or repetitive (-1 star) and the ending was horribly written (-1 star). The narrator was good, but used many sound effects like in a badly implemented audio drama (-2 stars).

Lifelong friends, they went their separate ways. Now they are together again, though each holds secrets from the others in his heart. They speak of a world shadowed with rumors of war. They speak of tales of strange monsters, creatures of myth, creatures of legend. They do not speak of their secrets. Not then. Not until a chance encounter with a beautiful, sorrowful woman, who bears a magical crystal staff, draws the companions deeper into the shadows, forever changing their lives and shaping the fate of the world.

I know, the D&D book genre tends to produce predictable story’s, but this book just felt thin too me. I did not feel the urge to continue reading on I normally experience when in front of a book. I stoped reading after the first quarter.

I listened to this book a while after the first one, which I remembered positive. But I noticed soon, that I just forgot the bad parts. I liked how passages reminded me of Discworld but was bored with other parts. Charakter decisions are often crass and hard to reconcile.

The book is more like Starship's Mage 2 than the better Starship's Mage 1 and overall a decent read. Sadly the story was "forced" forward by implausible character decisions which left a sour taste after finishing the book.

I like fantasy, I like SciFi and from time to time I enjoy simple stories. This had all of it. The story is rather black and white with a hero that constantly tries to trump his own heroics while still being modest about it. The story went down like sweet tea in the summer so I'm not complaining.

I read in another review, that this book is Stargate meets von Neumann probe, meant as unoriginal. I disagree with that statement, the story idea is sound. The problem I personally have with this book is Richard Foxs writing style. His characters feel shallow and often react unrealistic. (the soldiers in his book look more like a 5th grade school class) Despite depicting a rather straight forward story it is sometimes hard to follow it due to insufficiently described scenes.
