I haven't read King in a long time and hat forgotten how good he is in drawing you into a certain place and time. I also really enjoyed his characters and the way he incorporated some of his other stories into this one.
Imho though, this book has one mayor flaw, the B-Story is way too long and much less gripping than the A-Story. I see how it's necessary, but it could have been half or a third of what it is without lessening it's impact. Would that have been the case, this book would have been an easy five stars for me.

The Narrator is great, if you enjoy his very emotive style. I don't, so that's why he only gets 4 stars from me.

Gripping

Gripping story, a lot less esoteric then I expected. More "Contagion" meets a good version of "the postman" than arthouse, if you want to put it in movie terms.
Some minor weaknesses though, imho especially with the villain who is more a side character than I would have wished.
