Abby Field loves every inch of Meadowsweet Nature Reserve on the idyllic Suffolk coast, where she lives and works. Especially Swallowtail House, the rambling but empty country house that seems to look out at her each time she passes its shut-up windows. When a TV wildlife programme choses a rival location for their new series, Meadowsweet is under threat - unless Abby can whip up a plan to keep the visitors flocking. But she finds herself distracted by the arrival of a brooding - and annoyingly handsome - new neighbour...bad-boy novelist Jack Westcoat.

I really enjoyed the story of this book. I also liked the setting of a nature reserve and all the tiny animals and plants!
The main characters were interesting enough to keep me engaged. I also liked the side characters, though some changed their ways a bit too often and quickly for my liking. But overall I really enjoyed spending time with them! The outcome of the love story was predictable from the very start, but I don't begrudge that in chick lit, which I read precisely for a happy ending and comfortable read! All in all I was well entertained and will definitely consider reading more by the same author.

My biggest problem with the book was the voice the narrator gave the male main protagonist. A very nasal sort of voice that made me dislike him instantly, and even though his actions might make him likable along the way, I was annoyed at him till the very end...
My other small gripe was the female main protagonist having a husky while working full time - and only when she's out even longer would a neighbour take care of him. Poor dog being home alone in the house most working days.

Way too much "as you know ...", too much "fat legs pumping" or "musician calves pushing" (not sure about the exact wordings, but you get my drift). Many "males" or "females" which felt annoying to me (even if you don't use the word women, why use "sandwiched between two angry females"?)
No actual sex scenes or actual romance at all, but a few too many comments off the sort "Different to the short bulky females he copulated with" or how tits graze the dusty floor I believe was the wording, and I've no idea why that would be important?
One characters name is used so much (instead of any "he did" or such) it drove me nuts, and I'll punch anyone who says that word on the next few days...

I think this can work for others, but it didn't work for me. At all.

Anna was never anything like those "real" runners on telly, but when she read about New Zealand’s 3,000-kilometer-long Te Araroa Trail, she began to wonder...perhaps being a "real" runner was overrated. Maybe she could just run it anyway? The Pants of Perspective is a witty, colorful, and at times painfully raw account of a journey to the edge of what a woman believes herself to be capable of. It is a coming-of-age story that will lead you on a roller-coaster ride through fear, vulnerability, courage, and failure.

Anna McNuff is the opposite of me. Or rather she is who I wished I could be! Adventurous, open minded, happy to meet new people, and entertaining as all hell!

I listened to this whole book in more or less two sittings (or rather walkings) and I clicked with Anna right away. I loved spending time with her and being able to almost feel like I was on this adventure with her!

I am always a bit skeptical about authors reading their own books, as most authors don't make good narrators, but this one was so brilliant to listen to it actually made me write down a few thoughts instead of just rating like I usually do on audible.

100% recommendation from me!

One of my favorite reads (listens...) this year!

I listened to this one as audio book, and have read some parts of the ebook version. First off I must say that the narration is really, really excellent! I had some little troubles with it - mostly that there are some flashbacks that are easy to spot in the "actual book version" as they are written in italics. In the audio book you simply change from one scene into a flashback and go "what now? Where are we? What happened?". That doesn't happen to often, and dead people being around gives you a fast hint, so it didn't annoy me too much. The other problem I had with the audio was the names Isla and Ida being pronounced so similarly, that at some points I had the wrong people in a scene for a while before I noticed my mistake. You can tell them apart if you pay very close attention to the names, but I slipped a few times. But the brilliant voices, emotions, sarcasm and tone of the narrator more than made up for it, so this will be one of my favorite audios in the future.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To the story itself:
The characters were what made this book work so well for me! Cassius is a great main character, sho is witty and sarcastic and actually tries to do the right thing, while still being able to be a ruthless killer if needed. In a way that is my favorite kind of character for an action packed book such as this!
There are also plenty of other great individuals I enjoyed spending time with. Isla, the bioroid (a sort of robot IA in a flesh and blood vessel is one of my favorites. But the female space ship captain who is over 200 years old was also a pleasure to read - and I'd have loved to join her crew, that consist mostly of mostly (ex-) criminals and all sorts of people who have things to hide. They all felt very real to me and I cared for what happened to them! I especially liked the spectrum that ranged from good to bad and everythign in between - and how some of them took a double turn along the way, when their real faces showed.
The first scene was a bit rough around the edges, but from chapter two onwards I was hooked body and soul. I devoured the whole book in just 3 days and couldn't get enough of it! The plot is a bit meandering, but all the little twists and turns and the betrayals and puzzle pieces you find along the way kept me well entertained. I'll pick the sequel up as soon as it hits audible, as I really need to know what happens next!
There is a lot of action in this one - and still it has some really great lines along the way too. I liked it being faced paced without feeling like a guilty pleasure. The prose was fluent and let me sink right into this story and actually be there next to the characters, joining them on their adventure.
My only (very little) gripe was with some intentionally funny things, like a common brand of sex toys "Sexy snow queen Isla from the children's movie" which is eerily like a movie princess called Elsa or a book character who is the protagonist of a wizard's school under siege by the Dark Lord... Those things are only mentioned a few times throughout the book so while it had me roll my eyes a bit instead of amusing me, it didnt really take away from my enjoyment of the story over all.
All in all this was a really awesome listen, that I can only wholeheartedly recommend!
Captain Tamas is an ambitious young officer in the Adran army. As a commoner, he is one of very few without noble blood to hold a rank. When he challenges the son of a duke over an insult, the subsequent duel lands him in hot water with the nobility and the royal cabal of Privileged sorcerers. Tamas is soon drawn into a conflict that goes to the very highest office in the land, and his only ally is the most unlikely of people; a young noblewoman named Erika, who needs Tamas to teach her how to wield her powers as a powder mage.
This is read by a different narrator than the trilogie (as are the other novellas).
I didn't like the change much - but from male to female wasn't a big deal, as the other story had a completely new, female POV. This one features Tamas though - and I hate the change. Not only don't I like the narrator much (you hear a lot of breathing, d he reads very slowly), he also pronounces names different than the narrator for the main trilogy. This was extremely annoying!
The story itself was great though, so I'll still give it four stars over all, but only one for the narration.
Viele positive Goodreads Rezensionen und ein super Preis haben mich dazu gebracht diese Serie zu kaufen. Ich ear leider überhaupt nicht begeistert. Die Charaktere fühlten sich nicht echt an, die Dialoge waren teilweise furchtbar, es wurden einige sehr moderne Begriffe verwendet und die ganze Geschichte fand ich auch eher langweilig. Ich habe ca bis Ende des ersten Buches gehört, bevor ich aufgegeben habe.
