Twice Claire has used an ancient stone circle to travel back to the 18th century. The first time she found love with a Scottish warrior but had to return to the 1940s to save their unborn child. The second time, 20 years later, she reunited with her lost love but had to leave behind the daughter that he would never see. Now Brianna, from her 1960s vantage point, has found a disturbing obituary and will risk everything in an attempt to change history.

Enchanted? Not so much....

The characters are still rich and consistent, the relationships (mostly) believable.

The historical detail as accurate and believable as it can get (considering that the main plot device is the characters' dealing with some difficulty or other that may or may not result from the habit of time travel).

Her first novel - outlander - was exceptional, no argument there.

Unfortunately, however, Gabaldon insists on staying with a story that has run its course. Other than Sara Donati (who has long grown out of Gabaldons shadow) she insists on staying with Clare's and Jamies relationship as not only the main but also the central theme. As if it could carry all the other odd (sub) plot twists (which at times in their unreasonable complication and equally unreasonable subsequent solution, seem so far fetched and forced that it is hard not to grow impatient).
This book could have been much shorter and maybe that would have saved it from being another transitory piece, existing mainly to further the authors income.

Even with the few (addmittedly) nice moments thrown into the bargain -I am Sorry but I will NOT, buy another one.

What if you could go back in time and change the course of history?11.22.63, the date that Kennedy was shot - unless.... King takes his protagonist Jake Epping, a high school English teacher from Lisbon Falls, Maine, 2011, on a fascinating journey back to 1958 - from a world of mobile phones and iPods to a new world of Elvis and JFK, of Plymouth Fury cars and Lindy Hopping, of a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald and a beautiful high school librarian named Sadie Dunhill who becomes the love of Jake's life.

An unbelievable story, believably told

Someone must have said about stephen king once that "he could find the epic in the ordinary and make you see it too" - at least I seem to remember someone did.

This story is touching, because you almost believe YOU yourself could have stumbled down those steps, and ended up with a resposibility so huge, the mind boggles (as the british say, I know I am sounding geeky, here, but bear with me.

One constantly find oneself drawn in and think "what would I have done?" "has he thought of this and that?" - like a detective story, or a mystery were you're supposed to figure out what happens next.

In short, I enjoyed this greatly and although I had to repeatedly ask myself while reading how something so far fetched could properly end, the author surprised and pleased me even on that account.

So, I sincerely recommend this! (There, and I think I did even without blurbing any spoilers...)

On a brisk autumn day, a 13-year-old boy stands on the shores of the gray Atlantic, near a silent amusement park and a fading ocean resort called the Alhambra. The past has driven Jack Sawyer here: His father is gone, his mother is dying, and the world no longer makes sense. But for Jack everything is about to change...

How could you honestly call this guy a "gifted reader" !!

He almost spoilt this (truely) fantastic book for me. I find his style simply "over the top" and annoying.
I guess - like all matters of taste - this is an opinion and how anyone else sees this is entirely up to one's own discretion... I for my part was truely put off.
