After four tours in Afghanistan, Warren Groves couldn’t settle into civilian life. For the last 12 years, he’s survived by working odd and often illegal jobs for some of Denver’s less fortunate. His personal life is equally unsatisfactory. He can barely remember the last time he had sex, let alone the last time he got to use somebody hard and rough, the way he likes. Fate intervenes when a favor for a friend leads him to a pretty, young rent boy named Taylor Reynolds.

This book certainly isn't for everyone. I think a trigger warning might possibly be a good idea. There's some hardcore stuff, and I'm not talking kink or anything (though there's some sexual scenes that many people will find disturbing, too), I mean the things that the people in this story are experiencing, both inside and out.
I didn't know what I was getting into but I absolutely loved it. It's incredibly intense, sometimes overwhelming to the point of almost being painful. But it's also very emotional, the descriptions of one unfathomingly disturbed character's inner turmoils almost too accurate to bear, in the light of which the other character's near sainthood might seem unrealistic at times. But it makes for great love and hot sex, so screw unrealistic. The book is bold, fearless, not for the faint of heart and certainly not for the narrow-minded. But there is still that hint of fairy tale and romance underneath it all, one could argue might ruin the otherwise unyielding nature of it all, but I was glad for it.
As for the narration, I've always been a fan of John Solo, but he outdid himself with this one. Trust. He did an excellent, flawless job.
A tiny minus, but not enough to take away a star: the story gets a little too repetitive/drawn out towards the very end.

Dr. River McKay moved to Denver hoping to give his failing marriage a new start, but a year later, Terrence is gone. Now, River's decided it’s time to get back in the game. A chance encounter at the hospital introduces him to Phil, a strong-willed pharmacist. Phil can’t deny his attraction to River, but dating is out of the question. Phil only does one kind of relationship - domestic servitude, where he gives the orders and his partner obeys. To his surprise, River agrees - not because he likes the idea, but because anything’s better than being alone.

Not quite as intense as book 1, but I guess that's mostly because neither of the two MCs here, Phil and River, are as disturbed/damaged as Warren and Taylor from the first book. They have their own demons to fight, of course, but their struggles are a bit more tame, a lot less tragic. Other then that, Marie Sexton was just as bold and fearless, just as emotional and spot on in bisecting her characters' internal struggles, as before. Highly recommended for open-minded readers who don't mind the tiny spritz of fairy tale that's needed to provide a HEA after all.
As always, John Solo did one hell of a job.

Derrick Richards, a grizzled laid-off logger, inherited the B&B after his parents' untimely deaths. Making beds and cooking sunny-side-up eggs is hardly Derrick's idea of a man's way to make a living, but just as he's decided to shut the place down, Ginsberg Sloan shows up on his doorstep, pitiful and soaking wet, and Derrick can hardly send him packing.

...it weren't for the two different narrators. While Bane did a good job, Silversmith talked so incredibly fast, swallowing and leaving out syllables in the process that I had a hard time following or even understanding his narration. It actually shocked me, to be honest, after Bane started with his smooth voice and then... wham!
I tried to find a middle ground by adjusting the speed, but that again made Bane sound like Dory from Finding Nemo speaking "Whale". So yeah... just a warning.
The story itself was very enjoyable like all stories from the Bluewater Bay series. I'd rather recommend reading it though. Unless you like very, very fast talkers, then of course go for it.
