First let me express my kudos to the reader who did a wonderful job.

However the story itself unfortunately wasn't worth the time. I kept skipping chapters because I got so bored I only wanted it to come to an end. There was no proper build-up to the love story, and the backstory wasn't interesting either. The protagonists remained one dimensional and both lacked character. Won't be listening to other books by that author.

Nett!

Leider keine Empfehlung!

When I bought this audiobook I was expecting something exciting like Harry Potter, but alas, I was sadly mistaken. The story is an amalgam of Greek, Egyptian and Celtic/Norsk lore. There is no real story, just a series of action, fight and flight scenes with annoying characters and no character build-up to speak of. I kept waiting for the exciting core of the story, but no such luck. The thing I appreciated so much about the Harry Potter series was the slow build-up of an exciting story that mixed the mundane with the magical. The world building happened slowly. This series seems to go the mainstream route of lots of action without real background story. I must confess, I kept falling asleep all the time while listening and was almost bored to death by the whole thing. I certainly won't be listening to the rest of the series. Clearly, not everybody can use old myths as deftly as JKR.

The reader did a good job at emulating various accents, and was pleasant to listen to.

Rather weak and boring

If you expect a classical whodunnit similar to Agatha Christie's crime novels this book is not for you.
The story starts with a kind of social study featuring a weak heroine. She's from a working class background and gets bullied by her uncle. She manages to escape her torturer and works as a nanny in a household with many girls. The eldest girl is pictured as a bright and independent spirit, but still a teenager. I was expecting more mature protagonists and wasn't much interested in the heroine's woes and worries. The characters stayed bland and there was no significant developement imho. The crime story seemed just a background occurrence and I didn't have the patience to listen to the end. Unfortunately this didn't turn out to be a series I would be pursuing.
The reader did a fairly good job at reading a rather boring story.

After raving reviews on some social media I was expecting a very special new fantasy world, but was sorely disappointed.
The world building wasn't anything that hasn't been done in various classics like LOTR etc.
The hero, although supposedly incredibly clever, was neither interesting nor likeable. Most relevant characters were male, and the female characters lacked definition.
The whole story went on and on without getting more exciting, and the intervowen love story didn't manage to make the whole thing more interesting. The main love interest was supposed to be mysterious and amazingly beautiful, but just managed to seem annoying.
The reader although excellent at accents, tended to be sloppy with his endings, which was almost unbearable.
All in all not a very enjoyable listening experience. I kept hoping it would be getting better, but gave up at the third part.

Excellent!

Two mysteries in one book. Very enjoyable!
People who like whodunnits by A.Christie and the likes will love this book. It's deliciously old fashioned, and full of surprises. A realy treat and highly recommended.

I was delighted when I discovered the new Cormoran Strike was finally out and immediately bought the audiobook read by Robert Glenister.
The fourth Cormoran Strike story thankfully isn't as grizzly as the third. It reminds me quite a lot of "A Casual Vacancy". The author describes different social classes and the way they live their lives. It's a study about families and the damages they can do to their members.
I liked the way the author treated the triangle Cormoran-Robin-Mathew.
Not wanting to spoil new readers/listeners I won't reveal anything about the plot. :D
Robert Glenister is a wonderful narrator. I love the way he reads Robin and Cormoran. He's also excellent at accents. His performance is absolutely stellar. Highly recommended audiobook!
