Laurie is pretty sure love at first sight doesn't exist. After all, life isn't a scene from the movies, is it? But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man whom she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there's a moment of pure magic...and then her bus drives away. Laurie thinks she'll never see the boy from the bus again. But at their Christmas party a year later, her best friend, Sarah, introduces her to the new love of her life. Who is, of course, the boy from the bus.

One thing is for sure: I could never have finished this novel in book form. There' s just not enough substance to the plot to make it interesting. Enough for a short story maybe but definitely not for such a long book. As an audio book, it worked because the female part, Laurie, especially is very well performed with a slight smile in most sentences. I thought that was charmingly done. Otherwise it's a mix of Bridget Jones, Love Actually and a lot of teary schmaltz, with a heavy nod towards a future film producer. If you like YA novels, it's the thing for you, otherwise I'd stay clear.

A wealthy woman strangled six hours after she's arranged her own funeral. A very private detective uncovering secrets but hiding his own. A reluctant author drawn into a story he can’t control. What do they have in common? Unexpected death, an unsolved mystery and a trail of bloody clues lie at the heart of Anthony Horowitz's new thriller. Spread the word. The word is murder.

They were known as the Mitford sisters: Nancy, Pamela, Diana, Unity, Jessica and Deborah. Born into country-house privilege in the early years of the 20th century, they became prominent as 'bright young things' in the high society of interwar London. Then, as the shadows crept over 1930s Europe, the stark - and very public - differences in their outlooks came to symbolize the political polarities of a dangerous decade.

I liked the book but had to eventually give up on it which was entirely due to the reader. Whilst ordinary flow text is (just about) alright - ghe reading out of diary entries and letters is simply abominable. Maggie Mash reads it out with the voice of a robber baron, even if the entry is just "The weather was bad". It gets worse when she reads something written by a foreigner: Then she puts on a fake non-existent 'forrin accent' which is cringeworthy and insufferable.

Passion, deception, an unexplained death and a detective with quite a lot to hide lie at the heart of Anthony Horowitz's brilliant new murder mystery, the second in the best-selling series starring Private Investigator Daniel Hawthorne. William Pryce is an elegant, smooth-tongued lawyer who has made a fortune out of celebrity divorces - and a lot of enemies in the process. Unmarried himself, he lives in a handsome bachelor pad on the edge of Hampstead Heath. Or, rather, he used to....

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. In fact I got through it in record time. The plot is superb (despite me guessing right about who did it) and the narration is one of the best I've ever heard. Vivid and memorable, very very impressive. So, yes -I loved everything about this audiobook.

It was odd that Harriet should always have been so fond of curates. They were so immature and always made the same kind of conversation. Now the Archdeacon was altogether different...'Together yet alone, the Misses Bede occupy the central crossroads of parish life. Harriet, plump, elegant and jolly, likes nothing better than to make a fuss of new curates, secure in the knowledge that elderly Italian Count Ricardo Bianco will propose to her yet again this year.

In an age unhealthily obsessed with substance, this is a book on the importance of pure style, from the best-selling author of The Etymologicon and The Horologicon. From classic poetry to pop lyrics and from the King James Bible to advertising slogans, Mark Forsyth explains the secrets that make a phrase - such as 'Tiger, Tiger, burning bright', or 'To be or not to be' - memorable. In his inimitably entertaining and witty style he takes apart famous lines and shows how you, too, can write like Shakespeare or Oscar Wilde.

Rhetorical devices are quite intricate, so the audiobook makes it more entertaining, but on the other hand more difficult to remember them all.
As to the reading, I found it agreeable but thought it a bit grinding that German and French expressions were pronounced in an English way.

Loved it. The narration is first rate. Story is also pretty good with lots of real life England actualities. My only problem is that the absolute solution to the riddle only comes with the epilogue. But still an excellent enjoyable experience.
