Light reading, but entertaining. The story feels a bit cheap, because the crew rarely needs to pay a real price to reach their goals. It's a lot like watching average Star Trek episodes.

From the Audie-nominated narrator of The Martian. In eleven years' time, a million members of an alien race will arrive at Earth. Years before they enter orbit, their approach will be announced by the flare of a thousand flames in the sky, their ships' huge engines burning hard to slow them from the vast speeds needed to cross interstellar space. These foreboding lights will shine in our night sky like new stars, getting ever brighter until they outshine even the sun, casting ominous shadows and banishing the night until they suddenly blink out.

The narrator did a great job overall, but made some strange choices, for example giving French people an accent when they speak among themselves.

The book is terrible, and I honestly can't figure out why I suffered through all of it. Characters are flat, and the interesting hard sci-fy setup gets demolished by the authors lack of understanding of about every single thing (be it techical, scientific or political) he writes about. That is not how this works, that is not how any of this works.

Colonel Joe Bishop made a promise, and he's going to keep it: taking the captured alien starship Flying Dutchman back out. He doesn't agree when the UN decides to send almost 70 elite Special Operations troops, hotshot pilots, and scientists with him; the mission is a fool's errand he doesn't expect to ever return from. At least this time, the Earth is safe, right? Not so much.

The book isn't bad, it's light reading. Every important detail is mentioned at least three times.

The great part is really the excellent narration.

Recommended for distracted listening.

Very bad performance. Confusing scene changes. Reader mistakes speakers when doing voices, which he does only when he seems to feel like it. Very hard to figure out what is going on in some places.
