After I had purchased and listened to this book I searched the internet for information about the author. Well, there's plenty: he has been exposed as a world-class Walter Mitty, even worse, a fraud who has cheated an elderly couple out of their retirement money. That said, since the story is excellently read by Jeff Gurner, you still might enjoy it as fiction...

Excellent and stunning!

A gripping story with lots of action but more than an action thriller - interesting and believable characters - a reluctant and human "hero" - surprising turns and twists - a realistic setting - economical, ecological and political foul play ..and..and.. oh, yes, and a love story! Everything perfectly intertwined - let's hope there will be sequels! Narrator Peter Noble makes you enjoy the story even more - magnificent!

Just like in his first two Cordell Logan Mysteries David Freed weaves suspense, drama and humor with the skillful language worthy of this Pulitzer-prize-winning journalist. His knowledge of aviation and Buddhism, as well as his military experiences provide the background for a gripping story with endearing characters.
This time Cordell Logan is confronted with a threat much more personal and deadly than ever before. And perhaps only a half-Buddhist like him is able to make the decision he does....
David Freed's novels are always a great read, but to tell the truth: Ray Porter's narration really doubles the pleasure! Not only because of his "Roll's Royce" of a voice, but also thanks to his masterful WAY of reading!

Gripping novel about a highly topical subject

Some years ago I was fascinated by a very well written novel, "The Scorpion's Gate". Now, by the same author, once again suspense mixed with actuality, showing moral, human and technical questions posed by the much discussed drone program. The author's political background provides insights and his writing puts him among thriller authors like Brad Thor and Vince Flynn.. Ari Fliakos is one of my favourite narrators and does a great job again, here!

Awesome!

Breathtaking suspense, romance, great caracters and humor - gorgeously narrated by Ray Porter. The protagonist is a pilot - just like the author, so the flight scenes made me want to jump on the next plane... Don't miss this book!

Here they come again: Cordell Logan and his plane, the "Ruptured Duck", but also Kiddiot and Mrs. Shmilowitz (uh, as audiobook-user I don't know if this spelling is right). Riveting story like "Flat Spin", I was hooked on from the beginning! The narrator does a good job, too, while not quite reaching Ray Porter's reading of "Flat Spin".

A MUST

You have read "No Easy Day"? You liked it? Well, so did I! Nevertheless, I highly recommend you to read/listen to "The Finish" too - it provides you with the necessary background knowledge of "Operation Neptune Spear"; you will better understand the whole operation and what led to the events told in "No Easy Day". The latter being told from the SEAL's point of view, Mark Bowden shows the political aspects, too - in a very gripping way (as known from "Blackhawk Down"). At first "No Easy Day" and "The Finish" were considered competing books on the market, but I just can say that they perfectly complement one another - to learn the whole story, you've got to get both!

Even having read/listened to quite a lot of books about personal experiences in post 9/11 wars, all very interesting, none has impressed me as much as "Outlaw Platoon". There's more suspense there than in any thriller - moreover, "Outlaw Platoon" grippingly shows the heroism, sacrifice and the human cost of real life in combat as well as the strong bonds among men whose lives depend on one another. Witness a young, inexperienced lieutenant of 24years with his first command maturing into an outstanding leader. Written with rare openness and honesty, gorgeously read by Ray Porter, "Outlaw Platoon" made me hold my breath, laugh, love, live as well as mourn and cry all along with it.
(I just HAD to search online for an interview with the author - and there are some, just look them up to learn how and what he does nowadays!)

P.S.: sorry for my clumsy English, I'm German
