This is more a side story than a continuation of the main plot.
We are following the side character Caeco on a mission which spans over the entirety of this audiobook.

I was disappointed by this as this sequel was not advertised as a side story and I thus expected a sequel like the previous ones - focussing on the established and very interesting protagonists, adding meaningful content to the plotline.

However, the protagonists barely show up in this story - the only one's that we do see in action for a short period of time is Decklin (witch boy) and his girlfriend (white wolf girl).

That's probably the reason why there was only little development concerning the main plot. The author could have summed this up in 2 hours easily.

It's ofcourse not all bad. It was interesting to view the "world" from another person's perspective but again; it felt like a filler episode.

As a fan of this series I would like the author shifting his focus back to the "relevant and interesting" parts of this series.

Everything considered, I can't give a clear recommendation for this sequel. If you like Caeco and find her character interesting than go for it, you'll probably like it. If not.. you may as well skip this one. It doesn't really add that much relevant content to the plot line.

Outstanding series! I listened to pretty much every half way popular litrpg out there (e.g. The Land, The Divine Dungeon, The Completionist, Awakening Online, Viridian Gate etc.) and this is easily among the Top 5.

What makes it unique is the detailed and intriguing world the author has created, from social structure "irl" to the magic system in game.

What stood out the most to me was that the author deploys the PERFECT balance of fighting, questing, general plot etc. Something that would bore me rather easily with many other litrpg novels/ series is that they tend to describe every fight in annoying detail. In this case the author really nails it and is thus able to showcase a huge "event density" that is not diluted by semi interesting battle descriptions.

Truly amazing, I can't wait to listen to the sequel. Strong recommendation for any litrpg fan.

I love the focus on dungeon management here. Interesting characters. Still, there could be more information about the world, its orders and magic system.

Only negative thing: While Jeff Hays and the female cast did an outstanding job, the main narrator somewhat butchered the beginning (voice of dungeon core). Weird reading speed and emphasises on different words. However, after a while I it gets much better.

Overall a strong recommendation for everyone who likes series like "The Divine Dungeon" by Dakota Krout.

Characters: 4,7/5
World & Magic/ Fantasy systems: 4,5/5
Narration: 5/5

Comments:
- Soundbooth Theatre includes outstanding sound effects in the narration

- Personally I don't enjoy endings that have huge spikes in tention, even though plot wise it is probably a great link for the next part of the series. I would like to see more dungeon building aspects. Also, please make sure that the story doesn't get too "stressful" - the protagonist should also be able to use/ "enjoy" his victories and not only react to whatever overwhelming problem knocks next on the door.

- Still, overall an amazing story. Clear recommendation.

Constantly interesting. Great characters and plot. Fantastic game world and mechanics.

I don't have a single thing to criticize.

A MUST read, for fantasy, sword&magic and litRPG fans.

First of all, I always love stories read by Jeff Hays as he is one of the best voice actors I've encountered on audible so far. Annie Ellicott does a very good job as well. Furthermore the sound effects of this series make this world come to life even more.

Concerning the story:
Pro's:

I love the setting/ world - it's a unique scenario. I enjoy that city administration and politics are becoming increasingly relevant. This is one of the view times where I enjoy the secondary story (on earth); I would actually like to see more interaction between the protagonist and his new Russian family in law.

Con's:

I didn't quite understand why Maive acted like she did especially during the last scene. Furthermore I found that there was very little diplomatic interaction between the protagonist and the council of his newly conquered city.

Facit:
Overall a very well crafted sequel of an even better series. Fantastic audio effects and quality (this is the standard of this particular production studio). Good character dynamics. Unique world. A lot of story potential.

I think this series would be more popular if the cover design wouldn't scream low budget back-alley-production. Wasted potential on this end. Content wise it's a very good series. The narrator, while not being on the level of a Nick Podehl or a Jeff Hays, is quite decent.

Great character development. Unforeseen turns in story. Best part of the series so far.

decent

Yea, interesting & same positive aspects as seen in my review of the 1st part of the series.

I found the lacing of the story with stories of what happened 6 years ago boring and unimportant. The beast zones are getting repetitive as well.
I want to see more politics and interaction with "real people".

Well, I listened to a faire share of audiobooks but I never encountered a protagonist who was so dense concerning everything regarding social context. Does it fit to his background? Yes, but it is still mildly annoying.

However, nearly every other character is very interesting, the world itself and it's magic is intriguing and I like the potential within the main character.

The end is satisfying and it includes an amazing teaser.

I love the world of the story. The narrator is doing an unequaled job of giving each character life and personality.

I am eager to hear the next sequel. However, I hope that the rest of the story will focus on Hearthworld because I don't find the "Defeat the tyrant at home" as interesting, because the protagonist doesn't have a dungeon there.

8,8/10 - clear recommendation
