Having survived the first wave of invading players, Oren now seeks to strengthen his clan. With the Breeder's Den destroyed and most of Goblin's Gorge's resources devoted to rebuilding, his best hope lies in creating an army of golems. But for that, he needs Viridium, a rare metal that can only be obtained from hobgoblin towns, where Oren and his clan of goblins are viewed as nothing more than potential slaves.

Great voice artists. Unique sound effects. Intriguing story. However, very unsatisfying - OPEN end. I don't mind open ends if most things of importance are somewhat settled but the author decided to pull a cheeky one on the listener and drastically changed the story dynamic without any kind of explanation or closure, which I find immensely irritating.

His former work was superb.. this one devalued itself with this kind of ending.

I still recommend this, because 96% of the story was enjoyable - but the last chapters, well.. if you like massive cliffhangers (with months to wait for the next sequel) and irritating endings - this is a no brainer for you.

It's not easy being king. Especially when you've got an allergy to sunrise and sunset, a fire goddess for a mother-in-law, demonic adversaries, random assassins, and a basement full of insecurities to cope with. Add to that his daughter, the fire priestess/princess; a couple of lightly deranged professional magicians; a whole city full of wizards; and enough squabbling princes to resemble a kindergarten argument. It's enough to make a man want to just go home.

This might be one of the most annoying, unsatisfying and unsettling endings I ever witnessed in a book. I find it extremely irritating. Imagine you listen to 40h of rather interesting storytelling and after 20h you know from the hints given, that the ending might be shit - and then you can't quite enjoy the rest of the story only to find out, that you were right and the ending is in fact dissatisfying. This would be fine if the author would not have choosen to put this very much story altering and disturbing part at the end, where it is not resolved.

I would also like to see more strategic thinking from the protagonist, since he runs into any and all traps that are laid out for him.

With different ending or somewhat "resolving" this frustrating "cliffhanger" I would give 4.3/5

However, the current version includes this imo frustrating "cliffhanger" which depreciates the "satisfaction level" of the entire book: 2.2/5

Make up your own mind - if you enjoy unsettling cliffhangers after a 40h long story, which cumulates predictably in this ending, than I can recommend this book for you.

Otherwise I and probably you as well, have to weigh, whether or not this book is worth 40h of your life as a foundation for the following books. You will enjoy at least half of it.. and if you don't listen to or think about the obvious hints that will help "predict" the final conflict, than you might enjoy the following 18h as well. However, the ending.. personal preference I guess.

Eric didn't ask to be a vampire. In fact he didn't even believe in them. Biting your own tongue with your fangs does a lot of convincing. Even so, being a part-time undead isn't as easy as you might think. It can let you hold down a day job, true, but sometimes the night "life" can be more than a little difficult, what with those bloodthirsty urges and predatory instincts kicking in.

Interesting scenario and world - many interesting characters. However, the main character is quite the beta - nice guy - in many situations that involve any kind of interaction with women. He apologizes so often, that the listener has to be aware of impending cringe attacks. Also his morals are impeding his objectives, which sometimes is understandable and other times just plain retarded. I want a character with a pint more foresight and competence. Despite these characteristics, that at least I find annoying - the protagonist and the story in general are interesting, that I finished this book in about a week of vacation. I also think that the cost benefit ratio are incredible here. You get about 40h of high quality storytelling for 10€ - fantastic. Recommended!

Ryker only has one goal in his life right now: Turn a certain adventuring guild into a flaming wreck while dancing merrily through the smoldering ruins. All for the chance to get back at a handful of people. It isn’t as if they didn’t deserve it either. They had driven him from his home. Chased him physically from the very guild house itself.  Simply because he wasn’t as strong as they expected him to be. As strong as he’d expected himself to be. He’d returned the next day and left with something he’d hidden away and told no one about when he found it in one of his few Dungeon Dives.

If you have a Male protagonist, why would you choose a narrator who makes this character sound like a weak, childish, high pitcht, thin voiced, transgender brat. HORRIBLE. I listened to over 60 books on audible, many of them in this genre but NEVER annoyed me the voice actor so much, that I couldn't bear, continuing the audio book. "Great job"

When Erik and Rugrat entered the ten realms they didn’t know what was going on. They only knew that they had contracted the two week curse. When entering the second realm they came to understand their character sheets, and part of the system that is called the ten realms. A place that the strong make the rules and the weak cling to them for protection and hope that they might be left in peace. They passed through the trials of the Beast Mountain Dungeon, taking control of it and becoming the leader of nearly 200 people.

I think the narrator and the story are pretty enjoyable. I like the world of the Ten Realms a lot - the social, economic, cultural, influential differences between each realm elevates this story-world from many others. However, two things I will call out:
1. the author's preference towards this word constellation "FILL IN BLANK isn't simple". There are so many beautiful words in the English language but instead of using it feels like every chapter 1/3 impressive events, objects, people etc. are described with "... isn't simple".
2. Chinese names around every corner. I have NEVER heard/ read any book with a 1/10 of Chinese names in them. I mean if you have names like Shau Ching, Tzao Su, Chung, Hang Hou, which probably aren't the exact names from the book but you get an idea of how 85% of all characters in this series are called. To me, I can't remember these names because they don't make an impression on me. I also don't like sound of the Chinese language - imo it is one of the least attractive language on earth. Author if you HAVE create an amazing fantasy world populated by pseudo Asians, please use Asian languages that sound good e.g. Japanese.

Thrust into an unknown, unwanted situation, most would feel panic, fear anger, and fall into chaos. Erik and Rugrat are not immune to those feelings, but they have stepped into chaos so many times, it is simply a different challenge. Two weeks ago, Erik lost his legs and his arm. Today he got a message. "You have been randomly selected to join the Ten Realms. One may choose to ascend the Ten Realms, thereupon making a request to the Gods of the Realms. Only those who are Level 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, and 90 may ascend to the next realm. Fortune favors the strong!”

Great story with unconventional elements that make it stand out from other titles in the LitRPG Genre. Interesting characters. The only part that felt dragged out for me was The One.. defense Quest. It established a solid base for further stories to immerse oneself in.

Dear Michael Chatfield and Tod Menesses, please continue publishing this series on Audible. I appreciate, that every part is about 20h long, which makes it a "steal". However, while I love listening to such extensive stories, I would not buy such a thick book to read - therefore continue transferring the 4 already written books to audible.

I can recommend this book to any LitRPG or Fantasy friend.

This book and its characters really captured. However, the crippling fears of the protagonist were antagonizing to the point that I had to stop listening and continue later, because I couldn't relate to that.. it was frustrating to say the least. The narrator did an outstanding job. I'm excited to listen to the next part of this series; I hope that the main characters gains more competence during his travels as well as some magical powers because for a fantasy book, this story reflected little of the fantasy aspect, except giant monsters - which isnt outstandingly interesting.

I've seen reviews of people, who don't like this book because the main character has "no or little character development, since he can seemingly best everyone"; I however love this aspect of the main character, Rez. There is already an uncountable number of stories, in which the protagonist undergoes the "usual" character development process of starting as a (maybe talented but) weak person and then throughout the story (and often many real time hours) becomes stronger, but never quite reaches mastery in many fields, because.. then there would be no room to grow anymore, right? I dont think so and this is also what makes this book refreshing. You don't have to witness the countless hours of training, honing skills or gathering power, rookie mistakes and unadvantageous results of weak character. This book starts where I think it gets truly interesting.. and where many other books stop. Despite of that, you'll still see character development and the development of this character's influence. There are still secrets to be discovered, intrigues being spun, relationships developed and other influences, with great power, that apparantly wait behind the horizon. I will continue with the next part of the series.. as it is highly recommendable.

For those who reside in the outer regions of Aleria, the day of bestowal is what determines their destiny. It is the holy day of the Goddess. The day that allows those of age to step forward and receive their blessing, to embark on the path that she has chosen for them. To receive their Classification, which dictates their strength and ability. For those people, the holy day of bestowal represents fate itself. For Dante, it represents salvation.
