A good story from a master. It can't quite be put in the same category as The Pillars of the Earth, but good suspense, great characters. And Sally is a great reader as well.

The middle book of the Century Trilogy leaves you simply wanting more. After finishing I just went straight on to the next book. Spellbinding is the only way to describe it. Insightful and gripping.

What can be said other than this is the most amazing conclusion to the Century Trilogy I could have imagined. Having personal and family connections in nearly every country in the narrative takes it really close to my heart. I found myself fighting back tears quite often.

A huge novel that follows five families through the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for votes for women. It is 1911. The Coronation Day of King George V. The Williams, a Welsh coal-mining family, is linked by romance and enmity to the Fitzherberts, aristocratic coal-mine owners. Lady Maud Fitzherbert falls in love with Walter von Ulrich, a spy at the German Embassy in London.

I was never so interested in WWI, but this book really got me into it. I found myself researching the historical events parallel to enjoying this book at the same time. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good story, especially if they have an additional interest in history. Ken Follett is simply a master of his craft. And John Lee is also amazing as a reader, giving every character a distinct personality and accent.
