It is impossible to overstate the cultural significance of the four men described in Don Lattin's The Harvard Psychedelic Club. Huston Smith, tirelessly working to promote cross-cultural religious and spiritual tolerance. Richard Alpert, aka Ram Dass, inspiring generations with his mantra "be here now". Andrew Weil, undisputed leader of the holistic medicine revolution. And, of course, Timothy Leary, the charismatic, rebellious counterculture icon and LSD guru.

I enjoyed this book immensely! It gives such an interesting insight into the psychedelic movement and background of the 1960s and 1970s. Not being from the US, I had no deeper knowledge about the movements of this time an the role psychedelics played in them. This book has inspired me to read more about this topic and see some parts of that era in a new light.

You are a failed novelist about to turn 50. A wedding invitation arrives in the mail: Your boyfriend of the past nine years is engaged to someone else. You can't say yes - it would be too awkward - and you can't say no - it would look like defeat. On your desk are a series of invitations to half-baked literary events around the world. Question: How do you arrange to skip town? Answer: You accept them all.

Michael A. Singer, author of The Untethered Soul, tells the extraordinary story of what happened when, after a deep spiritual awakening, he decided to let go of his personal preferences and simply let life call the shots. As Singer takes you on this great experiment and journey into life's perfection, the events that transpire will both challenge your deepest assumptions about life and inspire you to look at your own life in a radically different way.

This was the first book I read of Michael A. Singer, and it touched my heart and filled my soul with so much joy that I had to read other books of his. If you are in a stage of your life, where you are willing to let things come and go as they please without trying to hold on to them, then I recommend you read this fascinating narration from a fascinating being.

Before reading "The Untethered Soul" I read "The Surrender Experiment" and was so much in love with the openness and serenity with which Michael A. Singer unfolds his life's story that I wanted to read more. If letting go and accepting life as it is, is what are doing/yearning for, then I will highly recommend you to read this book.

Humanity now, perhaps more than in any previous time, has an opportunity to create a new, saner, more loving world. This will involve a radical inner leap from the current egoic consciousness to an entirely new one. In illuminating the nature of this shift in consciousness, Tolle describes in detail how our current ego-based state of consciousness operates. Then gently, and in very practical terms, he leads us into this new consciousness. We will come to experience who we truly are and learn to live and breathe freely.

To be honest, it took me three tries to finally listen to the whole book. It seems that my mind was not fully ready before last week to comprehend the things that Eckhart Tolle tries to teach us. But now that I could listen to it wholeheartedly I saw what an amazing book this is and how much this human can teach us.

Each day we face a barrage of images and messages from society and the media telling us who, what, and how we should be. We are led to believe that if we could only look perfect and lead perfect lives, we'd no longer feel inadequate. So most of us perform, please, and perfect, all the while thinking, What if I can't keep all of these balls in the air? Why isn't everyone else working harder and living up to my expectations? What will people think if I fail or give up? When can I stop proving myself?

I heard some of Brené Brown's books by now and I love that you can hear the advances she is making in the studies of shame. It so deeply touches to the core of most matters and makes me realize things about myself EVERYTIME. So if you are truely interested in discovering you innermost self and want to openly accept it with all its wonderful imperfections this book is for you. Thank you Dr. Brown

At 22, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - and to do it alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than “an idea, vague and outlandish and full of promise.” But it was a promise of piecing back together a life that had come undone.

Didn't we all think about embarking on a journey in solitude to find our truest selfes, but were stopped by doubts and endless reasons why not to? This is an amazing story about a woman who, with little money and no backup, just did what most dream about and the countless adventures she had on the way.

I bought this Audiobook because I read on various sites that I frequent that it is amazing. I have to admit, that it was nothing I expected. When the author described her worst years, I had a hard time continuing because it made my heart ache so badly. But just as she wisely daid, I sat through it and it was worth every minute. If you ever need a terribly real but also wonderfully inspiring book, then this is it. You will not regret it. Thank you Mrs. Doyle Melton for your openness and honesty!
