This book left me wanting to continue listening to it. Beautifully written, well formed characters and a fascinating plot. In addition full of information about a time and place where my grandmother lived but l knew hardly anything about. Leighton Pugh reads it perfectly, letting pictures emerge without emphasizing the dramatic times. Thank you.

A fascinating ride through feminist lives<br />

I couldn't put this down. Being sick, I had the possibility to listen to it within two days. It kept me company, made me think, made me proud of what women accomplished, let me see these women as people with their own faults and their wonderful selves. It made me feel sorry for the political development in the US today. And it gave me hope that this will change again.

I simply love the way Markus Zusak writes. Tough on the outside, but with so much warmth inside. The story about a family 's tragedy unfolds slowly. Hilarious stories are followed by ones, that made me cry. And in the end? The feeling of love for the whole world floods my being. Thank you Markus Zusak.

A story with depth, lots of love and understanding for humanity and its flaws. A horrible time, occupation in Guernsey looked at through lots of different angles. Not the usual black and white painting of history, but in depth loving understanding for humanity. Read by a couple of incredibly talented narrators, I couldn't stop. 😊

I just loved listening to this book. I followed Pippa 's story spellbound, wanting to know what happens. I laughed a lot, felt sad at points and it took me on a journey of new thoughts on adoption, love & life. Thank you Alison Larkin.

This audiobook moved me to tears and made me laugh out loud. The mix of information about a country and a life I hardly knew anything about and a moving story about a childhood in South Africa is beautifully written and very well narrated. I surely will listen to it several times.

Heather Wilds is an incredibly accomplished narrator, but this book is still quite disturbing. A hero who cuts the fingers of his opponent without showing emotions or doubts makes me feel sick. The style doesn't grip me either,...
