This stunning collection of Oscar Wilde plays is one of my Audible favourites. I first listened to it on a crowded flight from Dublin to Zurich and arrived relaxed and smiling. The actors deliver great performances of Wilde's wit and humour. I am deeply in love with all those memorable characters...

The recordings are great, but this audiobook runs for less than an hour. I think that's rather too expensive for a 1950s radio show.

This is awful. An endless Wikipedia article. Dates and names. That's all. No narrative flow. Any real medieval chronicle is more engaging than this. The only thing I liked was the reader's voice.

These crime stories are slow-paced and features many weird upper-class characters, but they are thoroughly entertaining. It is sometimes hard to guess if these stories are set in the 40s or 80s as all of them are populated by Lords, Ladies, butlers and maids. So if you're into social revolution and the rise of the working classes -- this isn't your cup of tea. But if you can appreciate human tragedy even in its most aristocratic forms, you'll enjoy these recordings as much as I did.

I absolutely love these detective stories and the BBC recordings are simply amazing. The sound effects are pleasantly understated, the voice acting is great, and I fell head over heels in love with the musical score. The jazzy version of Shakespeare's "Sad Cypress" gave me goosebumps, and I also liked the instrumental swing music and oriental pieces which illustrate the different settings. This audiobook is a treat and the best way to spend a sleepless night.

When the boom first came out, I attended a public reading with the author in Germany. Katja Kettu read in Finnish, afterwards a translator read the same passages in German. In between, there were stunning performances of Finnish tango. I loved Kettu's Gothic outfit and her voice, and the German translation was extremely touching and powerful. So I was really looking forward to this audiobook in English. But although the reader has a pleasant voice, the audiobook was disappointing. This is due to the awful English translation. Besides, the reader is struggling with all foreign language expressions. As a native speaker of German, I sometimes had to listen twice to understand phrases in German.

I am not entirely sure what to say about this audiobook. The novel itself is a true classic of German literature and full of Enlightenment sophistication, but in terms of narrative beauty and plot development, it is greatly inferior to British and French works such as 'Clarissa' and 'Les liaisons dangereuses'. This is why I am aware that this book isn't easy to perform at all, but the producers could have chosen a younger-sounding and more passionate reader. The novel mainly consists in letters written by a young lady to her childhood friend, so I would have expected a more youthful female voice actor. I generally like the reader's voice, which is warm and soothing, but it doesn't fit the production. A more lively performance also could have wiped out some of the overcomplexities and repetitions of the source material. All in all, the audiobook is not an utter disappointment, but much less entertaining than I could have been.

This early Gothic novel is a true classic, and the reader has a pleasant voice, but I find her fake French accents exaggerated and distracting. I would have preferred a straightforward narration. The style of the novel is already extravagant enough.
