Geschichte
With Give and Take, Adam Grant not only introduced a landmark new paradigm for success but also established himself as one of his generation's most compelling and provocative thought leaders. In Originals, he again addresses the challenge of improving the world but now from the perspective of becoming original: choosing to champion novel ideas and values that go against the grain, battle conformity, and buck outdated traditions. How can we originate new ideas, policies, and practices without risking it all?

Lots of gold nuggets
Rezensiert am: 07.06.2018
I rate this book high up together with two similar favorites of mine: Creativity Inc and The Power of habit. Grant's research combines psychology with sociology and organisational management. He uses these insights to provide a series of interesting lessons on originality and creativity, the underlying message being that we can all be originals once we understand and adopt these principles. It's one of those books that I'll have to listen to a couple of times until I understand all the information. In this sense, it's a bit dense. Also, I feel the story slows down after the first chapters. At times I found it difficult to releate some of the examples given with the concept of originality. Nevertheless, highly interesting and inspiring.

Geschichte
For anyone who ever wondered what Marcel Proust had in mind when he wrote the one-and-a-quarter-million words of In Search of Lost Time (while bedridden no less), Alain de Botton has the answer. For, in this stylish, erudite and frequently hilarious book, de Botton dips deeply into Proust’s life and work - his fiction, letter, and conversations – and distils from them that rare self-help manual: one that is actually helpful.

Enjoyable
Rezensiert am: 25.05.2018
This book tells the story of Proust and his literally art, from which the author derives a series of practical philosophical 'lessons' that can be applied to modern dilemmas. In my opinion the title reads a bit misleading. Although, indeed Proust's literature can provide some lessons, most of these are quite obvious and moundain, at time overly pompous and oversold by the author. Far from life-changing. Nevertheless, listening to this book was a pleasant experience. Some insights and details into Proust's life are really interesting and the author really succeeded in painting an intriguing picture of this peculiar man. I am definitely left with greater appreciation for Proust's work and his life philosophy, from which I undoubtedly derived some lessons of my own.

Geschichte
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

interesting and well researched

interesting book. The author has done a great job in researching and explaining the power of habit from different scientific perspectives psychological, social and neurological all while managing to tell an interesting story. I particularly enjoyed that the author used real life events, ordinary people, successful people as well as companies in order to exemplify how habit manifests itself in our daily lives. The storyline is sometimes interrupted and confusing if digested as an audio book. Also the different chapters are divided into different subchapters which makes it a bit confusing. All in all a great and interesting book.

Geschichte
Creativity, Inc. is a book for managers who want to lead their employees to new heights, a manual for anyone who strives for originality, and the first-ever, all-access trip into the nerve center of Pixar Animation - into the meetings, postmortems, and "Braintrust" sessions where some of the most successful films in history are made. It is, at heart, a book about how to build a creative culture - but it is also, as Pixar co-founder and president Ed Catmull writes, "an expression of the ideas that I believe make the best in us possible."
