It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs - once thought of almost as gods - were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

I don't mean this review to sound too harshly, because overall this is a serviceable story well performed. However, if you are looking for something special or new, you won't find it here. The story is a wild mix of fantasy clichés with some unnecessary grim-dark elements thrown in for good measure. The book is so happy with world-building, it is constantly revealing new factions, conspiracies and twists into the story. Once time-travel and mind-control get introduced, the built up tension leaves the story immediately, because all prior information given could be potentially wrong. Still, there are some interesting character moments, but it wasn't enough for me to get me invested. I won't buy the sequel - but if any of the above sounds appealing to you, give it a go.

A fitting sequel to an already clever first book. Bigger, more ambitious and more elaborate. Certainly not boring - well worth your time (despite the not so great sound quality)

They say that the Thorn of Camorr can beat anyone in a fight. They say he steals from the rich and gives to the poor. They say he's part man, part myth, and mostly street-corner rumor. And they are wrong on every count. Only averagely tall, slender, and god-awful with a sword, Locke Lamora is the fabled Thorn, and the greatest weapons at his disposal are his wit and cunning. He steals from the rich - they're the only ones worth stealing from - but the poor can go steal for themselves.

First of: Yes the sound quality could be better, but it wasn't a deal-breaker for.
if you can look past that, you'll find a fantastically performed fantasy novel with a richly textured world and likeable characters,. It isn't a particularly action heavy story - but in exchange it is filled to the brim with clever dialogues and fun intrigues.

If you've read through the first book, you know that this isn't exactly a happy story. It sometimes so melodramaticly miserable in tone, that I struggled to continue. Still, it is very well written, fantasticly performed and the songs are rrally nice touch as well.

Margaret Atwood's classic novel, The Handmaid's Tale, is about the future. Now, in Oryx and Crake, the future has changed: it's much worse. The narrator of this riveting novel calls himself Snowman. When the story opens, he's sleeping in a tree, wearing an old bedsheet, mourning the loss of his beloved Oryx and his best friend Crake, and slowly starving to death.

Should you be looking for something more light harded or optimistic - than better don't buy this book.
It's starts out melancholic and becomes more hopeless in tone with each page. The story is engaging and the narrator is doing a good job. So if you are in the mood for a somber tale, this is the book for you.

The Moon will soon return. Whether this heralds the destruction of humankind or something worse will depend on two women. Essun has inherited the phenomenal power of Alabaster Tenring. With it, she hopes to find her daughter, Nassun, and forge a world in which every outcast child can grow up safe. For Nassun, her mother's mastery of the Obelisk Gate comes too late. She has seen the evil of the world and accepted what her mother won't: that sometimes what is corrupt cannot be cleansed, only destroyed.

Winner of the 2017 Hugo Award for Best Novel. Sequel to the multi-award nominated The Fifth Season. The season of endings grows darker, as civilisation fades into the long cold night. This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.
