Brilliant story about life at Oxford in troubled times. Very interesting to hear how political ideas and world beliefs might be shaped and altered.

Although I believe that there is not much I do not know about the horrors of the Holocaust, this story often has moved me to tears. And it is less that the information itself is unheard of, but the way in which the historical facts are narrated as very personal stories that become somewhat intertwined, left me in awe!

I love family sagas that run over several volumes. Having bought Emma's Secret, I was looking for the first volumes of the Emma Harte series. Unfortunately only the extremely abridged versions were to be found on audible. It is a real shame that the long versions don't exist!
This abridged version just turned into a list of names so that everyone has been mentioned at least once before he/she becomes important for the plot. And the cost of the full amount for such a short story is much too high.

In a voice both haunting and startlingly immediate, Nitta Sayuri describes her life as a geisha. Taken from her home at the age of nine, she is sold into slavery to a renowned geisha house. Witness her transformation as you enter a world where appearances are paramount, virginity is auctioned to the highest bidder, women beguile powerful men, and love is scorned as illusion.

Incredibly interesting and really well read, you could say performed. I am usually not that into Asian culture - but this story really intrigued me, since it enfold the historic and ethnic side on a very personal level.
