On a bitterly cold winter's night, Liverpool is left stunned by a brutal murder in the grounds of the city's Anglican Cathedral. A killer is on the loose, driven by a chilling rage. Put on the case, DS Nathan Cody is quickly stumped. Wherever he digs, the victim seems to be almost angelic - no one has a bad word to say, let alone a motive for such a violent murder. And Cody has other things on his mind, too.

It's not fast-paced, but all in all an interesting story with a satisfying ending. The narrator was not a little too emotional for my taste but decent.

This book was well written and the first half was interesting to me. I personally don`t find the legal aspects of corporate wheeling and dealing relaxing or interesting, so I skipped the second half to the end (which then didn't make that much sense).

This hip contemporary romance combines Jane Austen-inspiration and foodie fiction in a witty and engaging tale of two sisters who are forced to uproot to unfamiliar Austin, Texas, after high rent and broken relationships force them away from their San Francisco life. In this Sense and Sensibility adaptation, Jane Woodward and her sister Celia run a small tea salon in San Francisco but are forced to relocate to Austin, Texas.

The story really didn't grip me at all. Maybe it's because I know the plot of Sense and Sensibility. There were clever turns of phrase and translations into the modern era, but somehow I was not taken away into the story. I kept having to force myself to stay with it. I suspect it may be better as an E-Book or paper book.

This version of the Bennet family - and Mr. Darcy - is one that you have and haven't met before: Liz is a magazine writer in her late 30s who, like her yoga instructor older sister, Jane, lives in New York City. When their father has a health scare, they return to their childhood home in Cincinnati to help - and discover that the sprawling Tudor they grew up in is crumbling, and the family is in disarray.

Although I'm not completely convinced that this modern Darcy would fall for the modern Liz Bennett, that may be due to the speaker. I have heard several of her other performances and strongly dislike her intonation (right term?) there. Here she is tolerable, although I'm afraid she may distort the character of Liz to such a degree as to call Darcy's total devotion into question. And yes, the author has sprinkled vulgar language throughout the book. Still, it' such a good story that I can't help give it 5 stars.

From the moment she’s struck by lightning as a baby, it is clear Mary Anning is marked for greatness. When she uncovers unknown dinosaur fossils in the cliffs near her home, she sets the scientific world alight, challenging ideas about the world’s creation and stimulating debate over our origins. In an arena dominated by men, however, Mary is soon reduced to a serving role, facing prejudice from the academic community, vicious gossip from neighbours, and the heartbreak of forbidden love.

For the Posts, a two-week trip to the Balearic island of Mallorca with their extended family and friends is a celebration: Franny and Jim are observing their thirty-fifth wedding anniversary, and their daughter, Sylvia, has graduated from high school. The sunlit island, its mountains and beaches, its tapas and tennis courts, also promise an escape from the tensions simmering at home in Manhattan. But all does not go according to plan.

Don't be tempted by the fact that it's set in Mallorca. There is some resolution in the end, though not enough to offset the rest of the book.

Two dead bodies changed the course of my life that fall. One of them I knew and the other I'd never laid eyes on until I saw him in the morgue. The first was a local PI of suspect reputation. He'd been gunned down near the beach at Santa Teresa. It looked like a robbery gone bad. The other was on the beach six weeks later. He'd been sleeping rough. Probably homeless. No identification. A slip of paper with Millhone's name and number was in his pants pocket. The coroner asked her to come to the morgue to see if she could ID him.
