It's just another day of high school for Zack Lightman. He's daydreaming through another boring math class, with just one more month to go until graduation and freedom - if he can make it that long without getting suspended again. Then he glances out his classroom window and spots the flying saucer.

The story itself is not bad at all. Anyone who grew up in the 80s and 90s will have the occasional chuckle at the throwbacks -no doubt. Sometimes it's a bit overboard with the pop culture references. It's like - how many such references are even possible, and do we really need them stuffed down our throats in every second paragraph? All in all an enjoyable ride.

The battle sequences are partly exhausting, but still quite good.

Will Wheaton:
I will never, ever - never listen to another recording with him doing the reading. Way too affected and over-acted. At times I skipped forward to escape his over.enthusiastic play-acting. It was just too much. Horrible even. Never again. Even if it means he's reading a book I really want to hear, and there is no alternative. Then I choose to not hear it at all.

Would I recommend this audiobook? Yes - if they get someone else to read it...

This is by far the worst work I have ever downloaded from audible. The story it self could have been OK, but it just lacks any type of depth, is amazingly full of plot holes, is inconsequentially inconsistent, and just plain cheesy. It’s more of a dime store novel, then anything else. Do not get this if you are a fan of science fiction – do you get this, if you are into shallow ABC television movie type romance drivel.

Did you like the walking dead? How about Stranger Things? Lost? Got it all here. Nicely done. And I swear Boricio is Neegan's cousin. But... The speaker for Luka... HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE speaker. Wow. Enough to make you want to throw your playback device out the window or smash it into pieces.

Was genau hat Sie an A Case of Need enttäuscht?

The speaker was absolutely horrible. This was perhaps the worst experience in an Audiobook I have ever had. The way the speaker portrayed different characters was unwillingly comical, everything was over-acted, at times it felt completely silly and cartoonish to the point of being unbearable.

Was war der interessanteste Aspekt der Handlung? Welcher der uninteressanteste?

Michael Crichton always wrote great books. This one lacked depth in the right spots, and led us down an extremely long string of new characters. Each chapter introduced us to the next person, and the next, and the next...

Was mochten Sie nicht am Vortrag von Nick Podehl?

The speaker was unnatural and annoying. Over-affected and horribly cheesy.

Colonel Joe Bishop made a promise, and he's going to keep it: taking the captured alien starship Flying Dutchman back out. He doesn't agree when the UN decides to send almost 70 elite Special Operations troops, hotshot pilots, and scientists with him; the mission is a fool's errand he doesn't expect to ever return from. At least this time, the Earth is safe, right? Not so much.

Würden Sie es noch mit einem anderen Hörbuch von Craig Alanson und/oder R.C. Bray versuchen?

I liked Book 1. There were some small things about it that didn't quite sit right, but overall the author wrote a compelling story that made me want to see how it progresses.

This book is horrible. Let me tell you why:
1) The Author repeats some things over and over to the point of being annoying. It doesn't help progress the story, it feels like "filler". Things like "stupid" monkeys, The AI being upset that Humans could think up their own good plans, the explanation of the "jump-tech" and what would happen if not used correctly, "we can't leave any trace out here", "I have to be a Colonel now, but I'm still only a grunt", The special forces are so much better than I am, ..., and so on.

2) The story is just a long, drawn-out description of how Spec-Ops teams plan and execute their actions. That's it.

3) Any time elements were introduced to the story that gave it a bit more "mystery" - these elements were then abandoned for hours on end to make room for more of the redundancies mentioned under 1) and the "un-story"-like elements from 2)

4) The thing with the AI was just too much. We get it. We got it in Book 1. It was supposed to be some sort of comic relief, and a Deus Ex Machina device - but this all got used SO MUCH that it made me start skipping long stretches just to not have to hear it again.

5) Almost every "heart-pounding" moment where we were supposed to feel like "what's going to happen now", was ruined by the fact that we knew EXACTLY what was going to happen. Everything was 100% predictable. And some times to a point where I said to myself "please don't use this cliche, please don't go down that cheesy route, please don't screw this up with this dumbed-down explanation...". And then the Author did exactly that

This is rubbish.

Wie hat Ihnen R.C. Bray als Sprecher gefallen? Warum?

The speaker is fantastic.

Welche Emotionen hat dieses Hörbuch bei Ihnen ausgelöst? Ärger, Betroffenheit, Enttäuschung?

Highly dissapointed

This was meant to be the perfect trip. The northern lights. A press launch on a luxury cruise ship. A chance for travel journalist Lo Blackwood to recover from a traumatic break-in that has left her on the verge of collapse and to work out what she wants from her relationship. Except things don't go as planned. Woken in the night by screams, Lo rushes to her window to see a body thrown overboard from the next-door cabin. But the records show that no one ever checked in to that cabin, and no passengers are missing from the boat.

this was perhaps the worst audio book I have listened to. the story was shallow, predictable, and lacking any real creativity. things are explained to the reader as if we were too dense to figure out even the most obvious of things. the characters engage in behavior that is downright dummy and questionable - and they sometimes do or say things simply as a way for the author to, once again, explain things to us that are already apparent.

The woman reading this is annoying: her fake voices, over-dramatisation, accents that are way off the mark... at some point you find yourself wishing and hoping that she would just tone it down. There is not a single person in real life who speaks the way she portrays it here.

Rubbish.
