With all of the pluck and charm of its eponymous young hero, Rachel McAdams ( The Notebook, Spotlight, Midnight in Paris) delivers a spectacular reading of Montgomery's beloved bildungsroman. In moments both funny and bittersweet, McAdams' voice is imbued with the spark that has made Anne a much-loved symbol of individualism and cheer for over a century.

Half a century after the Doomsday Battle, the uneasy balance of Dark Forest Deterrence keeps the Trisolaran invaders at bay. Earth enjoys unprecedented prosperity due to the infusion of Trisolaran knowledge. With human science advancing daily and the Trisolarans adopting Earth culture, it seems that the two civilizations will soon be able to coexist peacefully as equals, without the terrible threat of mutually assured annihilation. But the peace has also made humanity complacent.

I have never felt the need to rate a book with one star but this time I do. If I could have give negative stars, I would have.

The story has no redeeming qualities.
Its protagonists start out barely relatable but degenerate to simple plot devices. Some of the supporting characters are pointlessly reused because the author is too lazy to introduce new ones.
The author uses real locations and physical phenomena so inaccurately that you ask yourself why he made the effort of searching for it in the first place.
The plot is a ping pong between a couple of unmotivated great destroyers and deus ex machinas in which humanity is doing its utmost to fail.

Cut the book by half and it would still seem dull. At its actual length I barely suffered the nauseating stretches between two mentionings of Uranus.

In a scrap heap within an abandoned factory, the greatest invention in history lies dormant and unused. By what fatal error of judgment has its value gone unrecognized, its brilliant inventor punished rather than rewarded for his efforts? In defense of those greatest of human qualities that have made civilization possible, one man sets out to show what would happen to the world if all the heroes of innovation and industry went on strike.

a good adaptation of Ayn Rand celebrating how the egoism of a few ruins many and ultimately achieves nothing.

This near-future trilogy is the first chance for English-speaking listeners to experience this multiple-award-winning phenomenon from Cixin Liu, China's most beloved science fiction author. In The Dark Forest, Earth is reeling from the revelation of a coming alien invasion - in just four centuries' time. The aliens' human collaborators may have been defeated, but the presence of the sophons, the subatomic particles that allow Trisolaris instant access to all human information, means that Earth's defense plans are totally exposed to the enemy.

unfortunately, this book is a little predictable and definitely has some lengths. As the story runs out of steam, the author has a hard time bringing it to the not very believable conclusion.

The Odyssey tells of the heroic journey of Odysseus after the Trojan war. In his attempt to return home to Ithaca, this ancient hero is faced with obstacle after obstacle, mythic creature after mythic creature. This is an epic poem encompassing an epic journey as famous as it is classic. Translated by Stanley Lombardo.
