From social media star and change-maker Molly Burke, a vulnerable, honest, and darkly humorous memoir on navigating the challenges of being a blind woman in a sighted world

When Molly Burke was four years old, she was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a rare degenerative eye disease that leads to eventual blindness, forcing her to see the world through new eyes—literally. Growing up disabled didn’t stop her from playing sports, becoming a rock-climbing instructor, or winning a beauty pageant, but other people’s narrow perceptions of her held her back.

Years of relentless bullying, toxic work environments, a rodent-infested apartment, and life’s lowest moments were juxtaposed with red carpets, first-class flights, and personal and professional achievements. Throughout her life, Molly has learned to appreciate the duality, and, most importantly, she’s learned the beauty of being unapologetically yourself and standing up for what you truly believe in.

In Unseen, Molly chronicles her journey as a disabled woman, entrepreneur, and entertainer, illuminating what her experiences have taught her and what she hopes others can learn from her hardship and successes. Part memoir, part rallying cry for a more compassionate and empathetic world, Unseen recounts Molly’s life and experiences fighting against the expectations society set for her and, in doing so, helps listeners find their own voice, inner strength, and self-acceptance.

Living with a disability is sometimes handling more than people without disability would ever be able to manage. And that shows in this audio book. Some stories definetely made me cry and scream at my screen. This book is a must read for anyone that wants to learn more about disability.

I was really emotionally moved by Molly Burke's story and learned so much along the way! The book has a perfect mix of sad, challenging and cheerful moments. It really authentically teached me - a non-disabled person - incredibly much about the challenges of being disabled by our society. Thank you so much, Molly!

Eye-Opening Experience (Pun Intended)

I've been following Molly for about 9 years and I love her passion for educating people and standing up for herself and the disability community! The stories in this book make me like her even more cause it shows once more she’s only human as we are! It also makes me so angry at our society to hear how she was and is treated. To hear all the stories read by herself makes it even more emotional!

AMAZING!

Interesting and well-written, with great humor strewn in despite the dark topics at times! Molly Burke's narration of the audio book is also on point. Only thing I didn't enjoy were the timeline jumps, I got really confused at times.

Interesting and educational

With Molly narrating the audiobook herself I was under the impression that I was listening to different podcast episodes/ YouTube videos about her life. Many of these events I could still vividly remember happening on her channel (oh how far we've both come in the past 8 years...), but I enjoyed getting this additional context.

I think people who aren't as familiar with her content might struggle with the non-linear timeline. I would still recommend this book to anyone.

Loved it
