Summary

From the critically acclaimed author of Hekla’s Children comes a dark and haunting tale of our world and the next.

After her hand is amputated following a tragic accident, Rachel Cooper suffers vivid nightmares of a woman imprisoned in the trunk of a hollow tree, screaming for help. When she begins to experience phantom sensations of leaves and earth with her missing limb, Rachel is terrified she is going mad. But then another hand takes hers, and the trapped woman is pulled into our world.

This woman has no idea who she is, but Rachel can’t help but think of the mystery of Oak Mary, a female corpse found in a hollow tree and who was never identified. Three urban legends have grown up around the case; was Mary a Nazi spy, a prostitute, or a gypsy witch? Rachel is desperate to learn the truth, but darker forces are at work - for a rule has been broken, and Mary is in a world where she doesn’t belong.

Funny and scary, a compelling and quite original horror and mystery novel. I will definitly try more books from the author.

I heard this after "The Plague Stones" and at first I was not sure if it was for me. Give it some time and then everything changes ( a few times)! I really enjoyed the Story and the speaker.

Was unsure at first and then I could not stop

Interesting how the description of a real life accident made me flinch even harder than all the mentioning of death, ghosts and other wordly things.
Loved the book, very entertaining and you don't see the twists and turns coming. Loved the protagonist.

Rachels and Toms relationship might be the healthiest one I've ever heard about.

Give me a hand

It was a really interesting story also I thought the speaker was a great fit. At the beginning I felt very sorry for the main character. I never thought about how it is to lose a hand it made me very uncomfortable but still not in a bad way. I really loved the way the story played out and it's completely different to anything else I heard or read before. I hope there is going to be a second book about her :)
