Late in the 26th century, the human race has advanced enough to accidentally trigger the Inhibitors---alien-killing machines designed to detect intelligent life and destroy it. The only hope for humanity lies in the recovery of a secret cache of doomsday weapons---and a renegade named Clavain who is determined to find them. But other factions want the weapons for their own purposes---and the weapons themselves have another agenda altogether.©2008 Alastair Reynolds (P)2009 Tantor Alternate History First Contact Hard Science Fiction Science Fiction Space Opera

Critics' reviews

"Reynolds confirms his place among the leaders of the hard-science space-opera renaissance." ( Publishers Weekly Starred Review)
"The best of the new breed of space opera. Wild action on a grand scale spans well-imagined and developed worlds." ( The Denver Post)

Very good narrator with a knack for the characters voices and accents. However, the audio track‘s dynamic range is too high. When listening to it in the car, sometimes parts get drowned by traffic noise. If I crank up the volume to compensate, I’ll have my ears blasted out of my skull in other passages.

Excellent narrator but audio could be better

As usual with Alastair Reynolds novels, slow world and character building, continuously picking up velocity and scale for a satifying conclusion.

Grandiose Hard SciFi Opera

Sehr zufrieden

Very good book in the "revelation space" series which pushes the story along and unites threats, but in the end I feel left on too many cliffhanders all at once.
Will have to listen to the next book.
This is great, no doubt!

Redemption at last but not the end of the story...
