Jeff’s lover’s death reveals a web of deception and danger.Jeff Berman thought he knew Pascal Montrouge. Brilliant, charismatic, infuriating and impossible to resist, Pascal was an investigative journalist who had broken Jeff’s heart more than once. But they had finally found their way back to each other. Then Pascal runs into a Manhattan street and is struck and killed by a truck. The police call it an accident. Jeff is devastated—but at Pascal's funeral, a stranger calls the dead man Johnny. Then an ordinary couple from Queens introduces themselves as his parents.Their son wasn't Pascal Montrouge. He was John Church.Suddenly Jeff is left with questions about the man he loved. Why did John abandon his family and invent an entirely new identity? What was he really investigating in the weeks before his death? And why did he leave behind a beagle named Rex who once belonged to a murdered librarian? That last discovery pulls Jeff into the unfinished investigation Pascal left behind. A murdered witness. A mysterious beverage company. A warning to stop asking questions. And secrets someone may be willing to kill to protect. With Rex at his side, Jeff follows the trail Pascal couldn't finish, determined to discover who John Church really was—and whether the man he loved died by accident after all.Because the closer Jeff gets to the truth, the more dangerous Pascal's secrets become.©2025 Neil S.
