Cute matchmaking series. I'm working my way through this all of them. This is the second box set with half the series in it. My reviews for the individual books are listed below.
STRIKE A MATCH ~ 4*
Fire, death, loss, hurt, freedom, sorrow, anger, letting go, moving on, matchmaking, sparks, trucks, rebuilding, kids, scrubs, uniforms, food, peanuts, parties, shoes, clothes, safety, smiles, happiness, cute, cute, cute!
Those are a few words that describe this novella really well. When I picked it up it was listed as #1 in the series on Amazon, and if you know me, I love order and especially reading a series in order, or watching a tv series in order. I don't want to miss anything. Lol. My hubby loves to turn on Netflix, find a series(especially one that I'm in the middle of) and skip to the end and start watching it. A debate ensues, more like me asking him to go back to where I'm at and wait or watch it when I'm not around. He's wonderful and does wait for me but he wants to know the ending and then is happy even if he doesn't watch all the in between. I just can't miss any of the little details. Those are all little signs and they all build and reveal and weave together the whole story(especially murder mysteries). That's what I love about reading, and series especially because I get to have this beautiful tapestry woven together strand by strand until I have the full picture.
Ok, little tangent there but needless to say, I went forward and didn't go back to the beginning of the series even though I realized this was the end. I did do some digging to make sure this would work as a stand alone and it does. Except after this one I'm going back to the beginning. Hee Hee! I actually listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the narrator. I've listened to her narrate another book by Lindzee and thought she did a great job. I believe she's the same narrator for this whole series. I'm loving these audiobooks, I can listen to a book while I'm working and chauffeuring my family around(I spend a lot of time in my truck in the mornings getting everyone off to school).
Kate is trying to move on and has a lot of pain from her past that she's dealing with. She was a strong female character that I loved. There were a few moments that she got pretty straight forward with Taylor and called him out for something that she wasn't ok with. More so something that occurred in her marriage and she had since realized she didn't have to put up with that and she could choose very carefully what she wanted and how she was going to move forward with her life.
Taylor had some of his own battles he was dealing with and needed to learn and realize that he wasn't always right in his choices. But he was definitely a great hero and gave a great swoony aspect to this story of love and healing.
Content: Clean. Some sweet kisses. Some talk about characters being drunk and alcoholics and the effects that caused in their lives but nothing graphic.
MEET YOUR MATCH ~ 3*
This novella deals with some serious issues, especially for children and teens to try and live with. Brooke's parents have recently separated and are heading towards a divorce. Brooke's father had an affair and it has changed her life around completely. She always believed in true love and thought her parents relationship was perfect. She idolized them, until the day everything fell apart for their family because of her father's choices.
Now Brooke finds herself the new girl in school and what should happen but day one of the new school year she overhears two really cute boys talking about who is going to win in getting her to date them. Uh uh, No way! There is no way that Brooke is even going to have anything to do with these two boys! Her trust in men and true relationships has been tainted by her father's choices and her mom's anger. Let's just say that Luke and Chris see that as a challenge and try nonstop to get her attention.
What ensues is some lighthearted banter and friendships and some heartache. I listened to parts of this while driving my daughters around and they kept begging to keep listening when I'd pause it after arriving at our destination, they really wanted to know how it ended. There was one part while they were listening that Brooke starts talking about the woman her dad had the affair with. She happens to say something about the woman's 'big boobs'. So if you're listening or reading with your teenagers or they're reading it note that that's mentioned a few times.
Brooke can't wait to graduate and move away to a real matchmaking agency to be a matchmaker. If she can just survive high school and the craziness of her life she'll live her dream soon enough.
Brooke was a cute character and Luke was not quite the player that he pretended to be. It was a cute story but wasn't my favorite of this author's books. But I do want to, and will, keep reading on in this series.
Content: Talk about divorce and an affair, nothing graphic about the affair just knowing that it happened. Brooke talks about the woman who her father had the affair with several times more in reference to her boobs.
MISTLETOE MATCH ~ 4*
Another great read in the No Match for Love series. Michelle is our main female character and was actually in a previous book in this series. Michelle used the Toujour matchmaking services in an earlier book and was matched up with Luke. She had one date with him, that frankly, was a bit of a disaster. I really didn't care for her in that book. But my opinions have been changed after reading her story. She's a little strong willed and opinionated, especially in the previous book. But Mistletoe Match explains it all as we really get to see more of Michelle's life and her thoughts and reasoning.
This book is definitely about perception. What do we see and how do we assimilate the information given. Especially when it is just what we see and think but not all the facts are available. A lot of problems can be solved if we didn't jump to instant conclusions from our perceptions. I think that pretty much sums up this book (and many other books too). Two great characters, they meet, have a falling out and then are placed in many circumstances that they must work together amicably. The angst and tension was well written and placed at great points throughout the story.
I will say that my favorite part was quite possibly the first meeting between Michelle and Austin. Loved it!!!! Michelle is not quite herself, she's trying to be daring and after running into this handsome stranger she decides to throw caution to the wind and really talk to him. Austin is amazed at the beautiful woman and the instant sparks. When they find themselves under the mistletoe he hesitates, but only for a split second. Yep, sparks fly and then reality comes crashing down! There were several great scenes between these two. I really liked both characters and the way they put aside their personal opinions to help each other. A real and lasting love is worth the sacrifices and Michelle and Austin have to decide what sacrifices they are willing to make. Especially when their personal beliefs and opinions, or work are at complete opposites of each other. If I were ranking them, this one would be my third favorite in the series.
Really fun. And one I'd recommend for a fun Christmas read, or really anytime read! Cute family, cute dog, some crazy moments, and some sweet and swoony moments. It's almost mistletoe season everyone!!!
Content: Clean. A few kisses but nothing further.
