This novel can only be described as rushed. Compared to the other novels in the series, this one was a real letdown. Yes, it’s formulaic and so are all the others. However, unlike the others, it felt like the author took the easy route. It felt rushed. I thought that Dude and Cheyenne both lacked any character development. I found Cheyenne to be weak and simple-minded, almost like a child. When she doesn’t return Dude’s call right away but after a few hours, she thinks he’s going to be mad at her. Not only that, she calls one of the women first to find out what his reaction might be. WTF? As for the passion or chemistry that the author tried to create between the two, I felt nothing. I wish that the heroines the author created were different, not sharing so many similar qualities. They’re unattractive, broke, have no family/friends, or does have family whose main function is to belittle the heroines or all of the above. Cheyenne is no different. She has the typical mother who belittles her and her job as a 911 operator, always comparing her to her older sister who’s everything she’s not. At one point she tells her family she wants nothing to do with them; however, it takes Dude to tell them off and get them out of Cheyenne’s life. Her family is now quickly removed from the story. By the way, does Cheyenne have a father? Not one thing is mentioned about him. Two days after meeting Dude, he takes her to meet his buddies and their wives/girlfriends. Talk about being thrown to the wolves. Rushed. I love to hit the bars/pubs every so often; however, I don’t know about you but I’m tired of these women who act immature playing drinking games and sloshing the drink all over them, only with them ending up drunk with one SEAL member sitting in a corner watching over them and laughing at their antics. Give me a break. These girl’s night out have become ridiculous and redundant. It seems all they’re good for is getting drunk and going shopping. Dude declares his love for her. Rushed. Since the story is moving along at a quick pace, there’s nothing more to learn about the men who attached a bomb to Cheyenne. There’s very little mentioned about the two people who later kidnap Cheyenne and attach a bomb to her. Rushed. Rushed. I’m guessing bomb making is something that’s discussed a lot around the dinner table. Cue eye-rolls. Except for being held in custody, nothing else is mentioned about them. It’s amazing how often the SEALS call Tex for his expertise. In the end, this was a novel that felt rushed from beginning to end. I didn’t feel anything special about either protagonist. Here’s to the next book being a much better one.
Where do I start? This isn’t the first in this series I’ve read. I liked the others, but this one? No.
First, junkies who are supposedly robbing a grocery store pharmacy for drugs just “happen” to have a bomb made with c4 and nails for shrapnel with them? Uh, no.
Second, the siblings of the junkies are also bomb making experts with a lair and the skills to set trip wires, surveillance cameras, and an elaborate revenge scheme? Again, no.
Third, Cheyenne’s sibling and mother were stock villains of the overdone variety. They were ridiculous and unbelievable characters. We learn nothing about Dude’s life or background, not even really how he ended up with the scarred/disfigured hand.
And lastly, Dude is a Dom?? Uh, please warn people when your book has kink in it. I had to skip over all of that as it was repulsive.
I wish I’d never bought this book. Blech, it was terrible. Also, if you read enough of Stoker’s books they become repetitive. I’d forgotten that, having not read any in a while.
Author Susan Stoker has done it again! Every book in the Seal of Protection series has been great and #5 is no exception.
Faulkner "Dude" Cooper is a Bomb Ordnance Specialist with the Seals team. Dude is cool and calm under pressure, always in control. Seeing his teammates fall in love with women he describes as strong makes him long for a woman of his own. He didn't think he would find her in a dangerous situation with bombs strapped to her body!
Cheyenne Cotton is a 911 operator who does not see herself as a hero. She is quiet and keeps to herself. She has been put down by a neglectful mother and a jealous older sister. She can't see how much she impacts the lives of those who call in to report an emergency.
When Dude and Cheyenne meet, it is hot, hot, hot! Can Dude make her see that what she does matters and makes a difference? Can Cheyenne let Dude have the control be needs? You will truly love reading this book to find out.
But that's not all Dude and Cheyenne need to look out for. There is danger waiting for them. Someone has been watching and waiting for the right time to strike back at them. Will they survive? Will anyone get hurt? You have to read the book to find out what else is in store for them!
I HIGHLY recommend reading all the books in the Seal of Protection series. It will give you background on the Seal team members and each succeeding book is better than the last!!!!

Passionate, Loyal, Protector, Lovable, this are some of the things that describe Faulkner "Dude" Cooper. Are you ready to meet this new Alpha SEAL? Christian Grey moved over there is a new Alpha in town.
Faulkner or Dude is the bomb specialist in the team and darn good at it. He had an accident a while back in one of the missions and one of his hand was mangled sometimes it was a turned off for some of the ladies, and it bother him but he never let it showed.
Cheyenne was a hard working woman, she always kept to herself and always tried to work hard to have her mother's approval yet she could never accomplished that. When she is faced with a life and death situation she knew she had no one to count with and she was willing to sacrificed her life.
When Dude and Cheyenne crossed path neither of them knew their lives were changing forever. They needed each other but can they both admit it?
Can Cheyenne and Dude love each other the way they both had wanting for so long?
Holy Mother of Hotness. Protecting Cheyenne is by far the BEST book of the SEAL Series. Dude will be your new alpha boyfriend. And he will leave you hot and bother.
This is a stand alone book, but if you would like to meet the rest of the SEAL team we suggest to read the whole series.
I recommend for you to read this and all the SEAL Series.
