"Girlvert" provides a rare, honest, unadorned peek behind the curtain of the porn industry. It is especially valuable because the author does not have an agenda other than sharing her memories. She neither glorifies nor condemns, instead she reports events from her memory in a descriptive, matter-of-factly style and leaves any judgment to the reader/listener. She describes very relatably how a young, adventurous, sexually open-minded girl slid more or less accidentally into the porn industry, found that this was actually something she could be rather good at (and also enjoy doing), and developed professional ambition as a performer. And she also does not hide the bad sides - questionable work conditions, abusive directors or co-actors, drug addiction, a painfully slowly failing relationship, her own primadonna behavior, and more. This is not a book for people who just want to reinforce their already strong opinions about the porn industry, regardless of which direction they might be leaning to. This is a book for people wanting to understand the reality of this business, and the unique opportunities and pitfalls associated with it.

It is also noteworthy that Oriana Small, possibly due to her experience as an actress and radio host, has a very clear pronunciation and a style of speaking that I found easy to follow. I'm not a native speaker and I sometimes have trouble understanding slang or local dialects, but none of that was a problem here.
