After reading Beautiful Bastard, I saw people saying book two was better—and they were absolutely right.
Max? Absolutely perfect.
A sexy, confident Brit with an irresistible accent and a surprisingly sweet side. At first, he comes off like a typical smooth-talking cocky womanizer with red flags all over the place—but wow, did he prove me wrong. He had so much depth, and I loved how emotionally available and open he was, especially in contrast to what you’d expect.
What really elevated the whole experience was the narration.
Jonathan R. Cole as Max? Phenomenal. His voice was rich, natural, and his accent!!!! so fitting for Max’s British charm. He didn’t just read the lines—he embodied Max. The way he delivered the flirtation, the vulnerability, the sexy scenes? Chef’s kiss. Total ear candy.
Grace Grant was also great as Sara—confident, nuanced, and expressive. She captured Sara’s independence and emotional conflict really well.
Surprisingly, it was Sara who brought the kinks and took the lead. Max was all in from the beginning, totally smitten, and more than happy to follow her cues.
The only part I didn’t love was the break-up near the end—it wasn’t even a full chapter and felt totally unnecessary. I hate when characters jump to conclusions instead of just communicating! Instead I wished for an epilogue. The make up felt too rushed. But thankfully, we got our HEA.
All in all, it was a short, spicy, swoony story with actual plot. Both main characters were likable, but Max (and his narrator) are definitely living rent-free in my head for a while.
