A lot of good body language readers and human lie detectors become so out of some autobiographical necessity, usually some personal drama. This is also the case in Joe Navarro's story. He had to quickly learn to read people when he exiled into the US from Cuba. In his case, it left him with a pleasantly humanitarian side, in spite of his shady employment situation. For example, the book tells how to detect signs of abuse in children, embroidered by his own experiences as father on playgrounds.
But the book is also good for it's original content. A lot about arm movement etc. I have not come across too much elsewhere. There is a wealth of intelligent life experience in this book, including also warnings about oversimplifications.
In addition it's incredibly well read, always a big factor in an audio book.

Delightfully written, excellently author-read biography of girl dreams come true, replete with drama, fat names-dropping in the most endearing, personable style, which occasionally gives you another image of a star. I loved her story of how Jim Morrison talked her - successfully! - out of taking drugs. A lovely story by a somewhat spiritual witness to important cultural history full of humor about herself and nice things about others.
For Germans: So gut wie (und ähnlich wie) Ushi Obermaiers Biographie 'High Times', aber noch mehr girly und sehr viel besser gelesen. Macht einen Riesenunterschied...

Good, well read book on a wildly interesting topic with cool jargon with some useful distinctions. A little too much commonplace if you know the literature on influence, relationships etc.
What I have been missing is treatment of the fact that ‘quick set intimacy’ is by no means a guarantee for a happy relationship. In partnerships as well as friendships, it is well possible to become profoundly disappointed by relationships that have congealed in this way. In this, it is too me a little too much of the sales type ‘get rich quick’ literature. Still, lots of fun.

Halbwegs unterhaltsame Sammlung von Verbrechen mit nachvollziehbarer persönlicher Reaktion und in so fern sympathisch. Ansonsten aber ohne Theorie, brillante Erkenntnisse in die menschliche Natur oder wirklich besondere Fälle, wenn man diese Literatur etwas kennt.
Gelesen in süddeutscher Mundart, deswegen unbedingt Hörprobe machen.

High Times - Mein wildes Leben
Top, nur nicht so gut gelesen...

Tolle und runde Geschichte mit viel Ehrlichkeit in der Erzählung und Wagemut in der Lebensführung von einer Frau, die viele interessante Koryphäen ihrer Zeit intim kannte und durchaus mit ihnen mithalten kann. Lohnt sich für Stones Fans und Kenner der K 1, um eine frische Perspektive zu bekommen, ist aber auch sonst kurzweilig.
Inhaltlich wären es fünf Sterne, aber weil die ein Hörbuch ist spielt die Leserin eine große Rolle. Die hier liest so wie im Rundfunk Sendungen gemacht sind, bei denen Erwachsene sich vorstellen, wie Teenager empfinden. Man merkt die Distanz zur Lebenserfahrung mit Drogen, Tough Guys und Politik von Uschi Obermaier die ganze Zeit, abgesehen davon, dass es recht naiv, affektiert wirkt. Nur wegen dem guten Inhalt noch vier Sterne. Hörprobe machen!
