Inhaltsangabe

The White Tree (book one): In Mallon, the dark magic of the nether has been banned for centuries. Its users have been driven out or killed. Its secrets lost.

But the holy book of the nethermancers has just been found by a boy named Dante.

As he works to unlock the book's power, he's attacked in the street. The nethermancers aren't gone—and they want their book back. Caught between death cultists and the law, Dante fights for his life, aided by his growing skills and a brash bodyguard named Blays. Together they're drawn into a centuries-old conflict that brings Mallon to the brink of civil war.

Surviving won't be easy. But if they make it out alive, they'll step down the path to becoming two of the greatest warriors the world has ever known.

The Great Rift (book two): Dante and Blays have averted war against their new home of Narashtovik. But they didn't do so alone. It's time to repay their debts.

The norren who helped them remain enslaved by the Gaskan Empire. While arming the norren clans for rebellion, Dante hears one of them is in possession of the legendary Quivering Bow. If he can track down the weapon, it could secure norren independence.

But the wheels of war have already begun to turn. As Gask moves to crush the rebellion, Dante and Blays find themselves at the head of a campaign for survival—for norren and Narashtovik alike.

The Black Star (book three): Narashtovik has been saved—but Dante and Blays' friendship has been destroyed.

Blaming the Gaskan king for the loss of his love, Lira, Blays infiltrates the enemy nobility. There he schemes to bankrupt Gask and drive its ruler from the throne. But Dante's been waiting for Blays' return. If he finds and exposes him, Blays will be executed as a spy.

As they squabble, strange lights shine in the east. Harbingers of a long-forgotten threat. If the signs go ignored, Narashtovik will be annihilated by an enemy it never knew it had.

Wasn't for me..

If you like to facepalm a lot..then this one is for you. Story of the first book was for the most part ok. but the other two after that were boring for the most time. I was tempted to just start with another audiobook but instead chose to use this one when I go to bed to help me with my sleep and it most of the time worked wonders.
So my biggest problem with the story was to point one: the directions the characters take and at other parts where the auther just expands the story and fills it with meaningless stuff.. had to shake my head so many times during this and this lead to me writing this review (which is the first time ever and only because I disagree with the 4+ rating this series got) since all other fantasy books I heared here were mostly brilliant or at least 4/5.

best book I've had in a long time

exeptional worldbuilding, captivating charakters that give you their hand, draw you in and won't let go.

Great story

A really really great trilogy.
The last few I listened to always reminded me of some other stories - this one didn't. The magic system is interesting, and apparently there are a few different ways to discover and learn it - intriguing. Also everybody seems to use it differently and knows different parts about it - I quite like that because you get to discover new possibilities with the characters and begin to wonder what else you could be doing.
The writing is great. It's always a bit ironic in style which I love and it manages to alter between third perspective and still giving inside into the heads of people (a style Austen used what wasnt and isn't used that often).
The narrator also did a great job. He did a great job at bringing life to the ironic nature of the writing.
He also managed to give people different accents and "flavour" without overdoing it. The bickering between Dante and Blays (especially in the first book. They were teenagers) was always enjoyable for its foolishness and he really got that across.
Only in the last book there were passages where it sounded like single sentences in paragraphs where recorded sometime (or from someone) else and "cut in". Maybe the original recording got damaged, who knows. It irritated me a bit but not enough to forget about the story.

I really recommend it.
Also, just for you cheapskates out here: you get a trilogy with over 50 hours for 1 audiobook. Come on. What are you doing missing out on that.

Great Audio Book!

It you are looking for a good story, that keeps you interested (but not addicted) and makes you laugh and smile from time to time, while also being sad here and there, then this is what you want.
Plus somewhat of a bromance 😏

reader good, but rest is awful

I could not finish it. the story was flat, the dialogue boring and snarky comments in every other reply. well placed sarcasm goes a long way at making the story entertaining but this was too much.

Godsdamn awesome!

The Cycle of Arawn is an interesting take on the fantasy genre, in the way that the main character learns and employs not-so-white magic towards reaching his goals. The audiobook has been absolutely captivating. The story gets a bit foreseeable towards the end but is all the more rewarding. Again, Tim Gerard Reynolds does an outstanding job at breathing life into the characters.
