Inferior than its predecessor but still great
Endymion is a worthwhile continuation of the Hyperion saga even though the previous two books did not need it. By no means did those books tie all loose ends but they did give some answers and left enough mysteries for the readers to ponder.
Still we are here with Endymion, the 3rd book in this saga which picks up 200 years after the last one ended. With a semi stand-alone story which does often hint or refer to the older books, but new protagonists, goals and fascinating worlds to see.
The story is a bit formulaic with a simple strong man protagonist being flung abruptly into adventure with bigger than life stakes, a quirky sidekick and a girl that needs, or doesn't need, protection. The plot dies take some twists and turns but overall the journey does seem a bit pointless, although highly enjoyable and extremely dramatic.
Simmons does posses a great use of language with really engaging writing, beautiful descriptions and characterisations, metaphors and similes that most scifi books lack. Not this one though, the sheer creativity and scope here still rival the Hyperion books and exceed most others in this genre.
Endymion is worth your time, maybe not so much for the complex and highly engaging story of its prequels but for the wonder and beauty of revisiting Dan Simmons' universe.

Slow buildup, fiery ending!
A big part of the book, nothing much appears to happen. Then it picks up the pace and ends fulminantly.

Fall from grace
Disappointing when compared with the previous titles. Spoiler: at some point the protagonist explains he is not attracted to a child while describing her bottom.
