Inhaltsangabe
In the same vein as Supernatural, Hellboy, and Blade
A secret society of monster hunters. A holy revolver forged to eradicate demons. A possessed man with a tragic past. A rising evil bent on destroying them all.
Matt Hollis is the current wielder of the holy weapon, DÄMOREN. With it, he stalks and destroys demons. A secret society called the VALDUCANS has taken an interest in Matt's activities. They see him as a reckless rogue - little more than a "cowboy" corrupted by a monster - and a potential threat to their ancient order.
As knights and their sentient weapons begin dying, Matt teams up with other hunters of his kind such as LUIZA, a woman with a conquistador blade; ALLAN, an Englishman with an Egyptian khopesh; MALCOLM, a voodoo priest with a sanctified machete; and TAKAIRA, a naginata-swinging Samurai. As the hunters become the hunted, they must learn to trust one another before a powerful demonic entity thrusts the world into a terrible and ageless darkness.

Feels like Supernatural, but without the charisma
Let me preface this review with the following: For a first work, this book is competent. It has all the elements that you would expect to have, has a story and follows it.
Yet, since books don't exist in a vacuum, I also have to point out the problems I spotted.
- Long and at times overly detailed descriptions fill a good part of it. Seth seems to like details, which can be nice, but explaining everything can kill the interest when it gets a bit too much.
- The characters feel really flat, a lot of them seem like the generic tough guy. That is mostly because the side characters really don't gut much time to shine other than slaying demons. There is little in the way of change in the characters, they simply "are". This is not fully true for the main character though, which we see very early on in his journey but skip over most of the development just so we can start with a competent but bland tough guy. The interaction of the characters in the show also feels rather muted. They talk to each other but you never get a sense of people talking about their personal life or just in general the feeling of real interaction: It feels like a script being read.
These two are my major gripes with the book. I just want to point out that when reading, I often got the impression of a film scene that was being described to me. This makes the book at times rather vivid, mostly because most of the readership will be familiar with similar scenes from Series like Supernatural. This does not work well for the scenes where characters interact: The dominant charisma a real actor can portray to sell a scene simply isn't there, so the dialogue feels stiff a bit predictable.
