Beschreibung von Audible

Our species has only roamed the Earth for 200,000 years — but in that time, we’ve done more to change the face of the planet than any other creature in existence. In his provocative best-selling work Sapiens, Yuval Noah Harari takes listeners on a journey through the history of mankind, from the Stone Age to today.

Over the course of this un-pausable audiobook, Harari examines how each generation of humanity left its mark on the planet - and how we’re still changing our world as each day passes.

Audie Award-winning English voice actor Derek Perkins skilfully navigates this thorough, research-driven work, setting the perfect tone for this riveting audiobook with his deep, intellectual delivery.

To put it simply in the words of one listener: 'Prepare to have your mind blown'.

Inhaltsangabe

The Sunday Times best seller.

Earth is 4.5 billion years old. In just a fraction of that time, one species among countless others has conquered it. Us.

We are the most advanced and most destructive animals ever to have lived. What makes us brilliant? What makes us deadly? What makes us sapiens?

In this bold and provocative audiobook, Yuval Noah Harari explores who we are, how we got here, and where we're going.

Sapiens is a thrilling account of humankind's extraordinary history from the Stone Age to the Silicon Age and our journey from insignificant apes to rulers of the world. For more, visit www.ynharari.com.

Superficial and not objective

A few good ideas and interesting parallels are drowned in polarised discussion and common cliches. It is a superficial reading, filled with controversial facts and unsupported conclusions. The book is more a subjective view of the author as a history of a mankind.

Incredible!

Linking the narratives and developments of 70000 years is an incredible challenge. Listen to this. It is a masterful presentation of human intellect. Full of doubts and bold believes, full of reason and ingenuity, full of contradiction and interpretation. Convincing, mind expanding and truly inspiring like humans themselves. A fantastic piece of art and science.

Great Book

I have to admit that the preview chapter was not making me curious. It sounded too much like from my biology book. But the recommendation like from Bill Gates let me start listening. And it was worthy.
A great overview from the Big Bang to today and the development of humankind; many theories and this all packed in a wonderful language. I learned a lot.
A must read. For everyone who is interested in more than the schedule of today's TV program.

History beyond the availability bias

The book lives more from the originality of its ideas than from the depth of the arguments, but incorporates successfully the latest findings in archeology, economics and other fields of science into a coherent theory about the past and future of homo sapiens. As a result and also thanks to the fluent narration the book can distance itself from the masses of new publications and comes with a guarantee of new insights for all but a few exceptional homo sapiens.

just an exercise in social constructivism

I expected an history of mankind, with disclosures in archaeology, biology and interesting insights. instead the author only goes on moralizing against social order, advocating for feminism and against racism, without any insight, but for the mainstream myths.
He construes the "woke" human as the pinnacle of evolution, and lets only fear about his intentions as advisor of the WEF

Super interesting for most parts

This book attempts to cover literally the entire history of humandkind and for most parts does a very good job in maintaining a neutral objective perspective, making the reader aware of each period and each culture having their own myths that would have great influence on the daily social life, the power hirachy and thus determined history. At some point he reaches the modern world view and the topic of gender and here he completely loses his objectivity in my opinion and blurs the lines between culture and biology in ways that don't make sense. He claims that most differences between men and women stem from myths and not from biology, going so far as to proclaim that men are only physically stronger because the many cultures of the world excluded women from sports and thus they had no chance to prove themselves. This has nothing to do with the patriarchy, this is just biology. So when all these topics were touched, the author definetely lost his ability to stay objective and his own belief system dictacting some truth to him became obvious. Thus ironically he gave a good example for what he observed about humanity throughout earlier chapters.

Until this part I enjoyed the book very much but that entire chapter was just a bunch of modern myths used to debunk the myths of the past. How ironic really.

Boring

This audiobook is just boring, repetitive and irrelevant. The author just rants about religion and social constructs for 9 hours. The book is written like the author is some kind of genius who knows everything. Get off your high horse please.
