Inhaltsangabe

Set in the Lake Superior region in the mid-1800s, The Birchbark House is a vital novel providing fascinating details of a year in the life of young Omakayas, a girl of the Ojibwa.

With exquisite care, National Book Critics Circle Award winner Louise Erdrich has fashioned a story rich in the way of life and heritage of the Ojibwa people, a story that begs to be told out loud. As each season in a year of Omakayas' life is lovingly portrayed, the satisfying rhythm of her days is shattered when a stranger visits the lodge one night, bringing with him an invisible enemy that will change things forever.

Was hat Ihnen am allerbesten an The Birchbark House gefallen?

I don't know what I like best - the tender and yet powerful way the author tells the story, or the sensitive and caring way it is read!
    THANK YOU!

Hätten Sie das Hörbuch am liebsten in einem Rutsch durchgehört?

I could not stop listening - everything else in my life felt like disturbing and a nuysance. I finished the audibook in one vevening - okay, one complete night.
I will certainly listen to it at least once more, and I will certainly buy the sequels!

The story and its narration painted vivid pictures on my mind, I was really lost in it.

Was wäre für andere Hörer sonst noch hilfreich zu wissen, um das Hörbuch richtig einschätzen zu können?

I am German, and I had no difficultier in understanding the English audio book.
Though the author uses the language virtuoso and I certainly don't know every English word, the reader tells it with such a clear and resonant voice in just the perfect speed, that the colorful and vibrant pictures are evolving nevertheless.

I don't know whether there is a German translation of this masterpiece - if there is, the translator must have had a very hard time to transfer the many-faceted mood of the best audio book I have ever listened to!
