Fantastic Book
I really like to read/listen books/courses that have to do with science. This course is called The other side of History, and that is exactly what you get. But not only that, you also learn a lot about the History of Egypt, Greece, Rome and many more. All spoken by the Author himself who has a very pleasant way of speaking. I will listen to this work again.

Great course and great lecturer
Great overview of 'the other side of history'. The ancient world part of the title is a bit misleading as many lectures are about medieval England, I would have been eager to hear more about civilization outside the European/Mediterranean world instead.

Genial 🤩

Sound introduction to everyday history
Concise, knowledgeable, sometimes even funny. Anecdotal evidence features a bit much. Great overview. The medieval part is sadly only pertaining to England, but I would rather have the lecturer talk about stuff he really knows about than just citing others.
You will meet slaves, women, men, old and infirm people, poor and rich alike. The focus is on the poor, the 'little' people of the past. The lecturer alleviates their status to give them the status they had, often overlooked in older histories: of the carriers of burden for the great empires that could solely exist on the backs of the women and men that carried on with their everyday lives, come crisis, flood, a new religion or an old conqueror.
Wonderful insight in every chapter.

Very listener-friendly
The course is easy to listen and good structured. Professor Garland does an excellent job in bringing history alive. But as for all lecture courses which try cover a huge subject, they are bound to be flat or superficial in some parts. Nevertheless, a good course.
