Beschreibung von Audible

Beginning with his sojourn from Limerick to New York, Frank McCourt continues the heartfelt tales he began to tell in Angela's Ashes. I listened to 'Tis along with old friends of McCourt's from the place in Greenwich Village they would haunt. They attest that 'Tis captures the understated if knowing verve of the writer they saw their friend become. I myself found joy in hearing McCourt give voice to his students in Staten Island; how they unfurled the importance of the lost writings of their long gone relatives and discovered excitement in literature from Shakespeare to Salinger is testament to this man's own struggle and passionate journey. If you loved Angela's Ashes - listen and enjoy. 'Tis a wonderful thing you will have done. (Dale)

Inhaltsangabe

The same vulnerable but invincible spirit that captured our hearts in the Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela's Ashes comes of age in 'Tis. Listen as Frank tells in his own inimitable voice his story of how at the age of 19 he traveled from Limerick to New York in pursuit of the American dream. Despite the abundance of unsolicited advice he gets to "join the cops" and "stick to his own kind", Frank knows that he should educate himself and somehow rise above his circumstances. And though he left school at 14, he talks his way into New York University, falls in love with the quintessential Yankee, long-legged and blond, and tries to live his dream. But it is not until he starts to teach - and to write - that Frank finds his place in the world. And for those of us who are lucky enough to come across his writings - and captivating readings - 'Tis a wonderful thing that he did.

Kritikerstimmen

"To his Irish-American credit, [McCourt] acknowledges his heritage as his cross as well as his prize..." (The New York Times)
"'Tis is a hard-nosed but lyrical conclusion to the story begun in Angela's Ashes." (Newsweek)

    "A bit too much"

A fine story, but it would be a even better book if Frank would stop complaining about anything.

    "Great audio book!"

Ich habe das Buch vorher schon gelesen, aber das Hörbuch ist - gesprochen vom Autor selbst - noch viel viel besser. Keine Minute langweilig, sehr zu emfpehlen! Love the Irish brogue! :-)
